Thanks, Rattlecan Dan. I still plan to build several Wood Brothers #21s and am collecting base kits and decals.

Thanks, slusher, ChrisR.

Thanks, PappyD340.

I look forward to the completion of Donnie Allison's car.
-
Thanks, TarheelRick. Indeed, up to this time, it felt like a battle of race cars tuned from production cars.
-
Thanks, Nacho Z. In fact, there is a lot of rough crafting and I always want to improve my crafting skills.
-
Thanks, Volzfan59. I am also rather fond of FoMoCo. And the Wood Brothers are my favorite team in NASCAR.
-
Thanks, Horrorshow. MPC's body was a good reproduction of the real car's image.

Harrison Burton won the 25th NASCAR round of the Coke Zero Sugar 400, giving Wood Brothers Racing its 100th win. To celebrate Wood Brothers Racing's 100th win, I build a 1973 Mercury Cyclone. The driver is David Pearson. Body is MPC's ‘Donnie Allison's Mercury Stock Car’, built on a Polar Lights ‘Mercury Cyclone’ chassis. The body was modified by repositioning the fuel inlet, fitting a plain rear panel, adding an overflow pipe, adding split lines to the front and rear panels and refurbishing the front grille. The rear spoiler is made from 0.5 mm thick plastic sheet. For the cockpit, the instrument panel has been modified, and the steering wheel and fire extinguisher from the Monogram kit have been converted. The engine is a 427 Tunnel Port. The body was sprayed with Tamiya's Super Surfacer (Gray), Fine Surfacer (White), and TS-26 Pure White. The roof is TS-18 Metallic Red. The last image shows the Wood Brothers machine I have built so far. I like the combination of the white and red body color and the gold shining “21”.

Thanks. Rattlecan Dan.

Thanks, Rattlecan, IJ001. I also have an airbrush, but it is a pain to maintain, so I always end up painting with Tamiya colour sprayers. Sometimes I make mistakes, but this time I was able to paint it so-so well.

Thanks, slusher, ewetwo. I'm glad you appreciate my matador.

Thank you all for your replies. I'm glad you all like the matador I built.

This car is a Penske Racing AMC Matador, which finished second in the 1975 Daytona 500, with driver Bobby Allison. Penske Racing made its NASCAR debut in 1972 with Mark Donahue driving the AMC Matador. Bobby Allison then joined the team in 1974 and won four races in three years up to 1976. The kit built for this project was released in 1975, when the AMT PENSKE/ALLISON MATADOR. As it was a very old kit, there were several parts that had to be refurbished, but I managed to complete it. The body has enlarged front wheel arches and the rear spoiler is made from parts of JO-HAN's Ford Torino. The cockpit has a roll cage with additional side bars and a reworked instrument panel. The racing seats are modified from the AMT GEN4 kit and the fire extinguishers are from the MONOGRAM kit. Window nets and tyres are from PPP. Decals are from CHERRYRUNMODEL and as usual were purchased from Mike's Decals. The last image shows it side-by-side with the Roger Penske 50-winning Dodge Intrepid R/T driven by Ryan Newman.

Thanks, rv1963, shoopdog, ChrisR.

Thanks, Jim N. I don't use an airbrush, I spray paint, and this time it worked out alright.

Thanks, bbowser. Painting the NASCAR kit with the Throuback paint scheme and applying the decals is a great way to experience the history of NASCAR, in addition to the fun of the production itself.
-
Thanks, Dave. It's great that you own an AMC 74 Matador. I actually started building my AMT Penske Matador yesterday. It is an old kit and needs a lot of refurbishment, but I will take my time in building it.
-
Thanks, PappyD340. This time the kit was almost box stock, but it was easy to make.
-
Thanks, Johnny. When I bought this kit from a Canadian hobby shop, the exchange rate was also 30% cheaper, I believe.

#12 Alltel Team rolled out this throwback Penske scheme for the 2003 Pop Secret 400 at Rockingham. This was celebrate Roger Penske's 50 wins in NASCAR. This scheme is the same as Roger used in the early 70's with Allison driven AMC Matador's. This kit is similar in component construction to the ‘Snaptite Pro Finish’ kit and requires gluing and painting. The Intrepid R/T kit with the four-part radiator grille was not widely distributed in Japan, and I purchased mine from a Canadian hobby shop website. Decals is JWTBM's "#12 Alltell Penske 50 Wins Ryan Newman 2003" . Decal ordered from "Mike's Decals" as usual. The body was sprayed with Tamiya Spray's TS-44 Brilliant Blue, TS-26 Pure White and TS-49 Bright Red, but the blue was a darker colour than the actual car blue.

Thanks for Reply , Bruce, slusher, sflam123. Recently, after the decals on the body have dried, GSI Creos "PREMIUM TOPCOAT" (Water-Based Clear Finising Spray) has been sprayed on. Because it is water-based, the decals are not damaged and can be finished to a hoddy with a hard feel.
