  1. Thanks, PappyD340. This time the kit was almost box stock, but it was easy to make.
  2. Thanks, Johnny. When I bought this kit from a Canadian hobby shop, the exchange rate was also 30% cheaper, I believe.
  3. #12 Alltel Team rolled out this throwback Penske scheme for the 2003 Pop Secret 400 at Rockingham. This was celebrate Roger Penske's 50 wins in NASCAR. This scheme is the same as Roger used in the early 70's with Allison driven AMC Matador's. This kit is similar in component construction to the ‘Snaptite Pro Finish’ kit and requires gluing and painting. The Intrepid R/T kit with the four-part radiator grille was not widely distributed in Japan, and I purchased mine from a Canadian hobby shop website. Decals is JWTBM's "#12 Alltell Penske 50 Wins Ryan Newman 2003" . Decal ordered from "Mike's Decals" as usual. The body was sprayed with Tamiya Spray's TS-44 Brilliant Blue, TS-26 Pure White and TS-49 Bright Red, but the blue was a darker colour than the actual car blue.
  4. Thanks for Reply , Bruce, slusher, sflam123. Recently, after the decals on the body have dried, GSI Creos "PREMIUM TOPCOAT" (Water-Based Clear Finising Spray) has been sprayed on. Because it is water-based, the decals are not damaged and can be finished to a hoddy with a hard feel.
  5. Thanks for Reply , all.
  6. This car was a Ford Fusion entered in the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in September 2015, teamed with Rausch Fenway Racing and driven by Ricky Stenhouse Jr. This paint scheme is the same one used by David Pearson when he entered the Holman Moody Racing car in 1968 and 1969 and won the Grand National Series in successive years. Base kit is the "BRAD KESELOWSKI #2 BLUE DEUCE FORD FUSION" from Revell's SnapTite Max series of snap kits for the younger generation, which was previously built by the Wood Brothers Ford Fusion and Kyle Larson's Chevy SS. Similar modifications were made. Decals were ordered from "Mike's Decals" as usual and a #17 Retro 2015 Darlington Ricky Stenhouse Jr Fusion from MPR was purchased. The body was sprayed with Tamiya Super Surfacer (grey) and sprayed with TS-19 Metallic Blue and TS-21 Gold before the decals were applied. The last photo shows the car side-by-side with the Ford Torino Cobra previously published.
  7. Thanks, Coyote_6. I also like the blue body and gold wheels combination of this Torino Cobra. Incidentally, my car is a '2002 Subaru Impreza sports wagon with a blue body and gold wheels.
  8. Thanks, MarkJ, johnny Canuck. Every time I do build-up, I notice areas where I think "I should have done this", and I think this motivates me for the next build.
  9. Thank you all!! I'm a little unhappy with the way the roof has been lifted and shaped, which has increased the angle of the A-pillar. But I think it was good practice for when I build another POLAR LIGHTS kit in the future.
  10. This car is a 1968 Ford Torino Cobra. The driver was David Pearson and the team was Holman & Moody, who were NASCAR Grand National Champions two years in a row in 1968 and 1969. This car was built once before, about five years ago, but it was not very well done, so I built it again this time. The last time I built this car I combined POLAR LIGHTS Ford Torino Talladega chassis with AMT Torino Cobra body, but this time I modified POLAR LIGHTS Ford Torino Talladega to recreate a normal-nose Torino Cobra. The Talladega body has had the top of the front body panel reshaped, the front nose cut, the position and shape of the fuel inlet changed and the height of the rear spoiler reduced. The rear window has been machined to match the window frame of the body and fitted to the body. The plain roof shape and low window were also a concern, so the shape and height were modified with reference to the body of AMT's Torino Cobra, but the result was somewhat unsatisfactory. The front grille was adapted from AMT's Torino Cobra parts, and headlamp covers and grille guards were fitted. The chassis has been shortened in the front section to fit the severed nose, the front suspension adjustment rod mountings have been modified and an oil pan guard added. The dashboard and fire extinguisher were diverted from junk parts from the Monogram kit. Decals were used from the POLAR LIGHTS kit, but due to the deterioration of the decals, some have cracked, and the roughness has become quite noticeable, but the overall atmosphere could be reproduced, so I have compromised in the appropriate places. The body colour was sprayed with Tamiya's TS-19 metallic blue and TS-21 gold.
  11. It's a great build that I don't think I've seen in 30 years.
  12. Thanks to Rattlecan Dan for the reply !
  13. Thanks to everyone for the replies. I looked "Days of Thunder" in the cinema at the time and was very impressed with this paint scheme. Therefore, I had a great time making this Chevy for Throwback schemes.
  14. Thank you all. I have learned a lot from building this model kit that the actual NextGen cars are safe and high performance, but I thought the kit building itself was more fun for earlier generations.
  15. This car is a Chevrolet SS that competed in the Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway in September 2015, team Chip Ganassi Racing Chevrolet and driver Kyle Larson. The paint scheme is the mello yello colour that Tom Cruise drove in the 1990 film Days of Thunder, starring Tom Cruise, which was set in NASCAR. After the film's release, Kyle Petty, son of Richard Petty, drove a car in this livery from 1991 to 1994, making it one of the most famous colour schemes. The base kit is "2016 #48 JIMMIE JOHNSON LOWE'S CHEVY SS" from Revell's "SnapTite Max" series, with the body pre-painted in the basic paint of number 48 Jimmy Johnson. This kit is a snap kit for the younger generation in the same series as the Ford Fusion built in August 2023, with a simplified interior, the engine has been omitted and the chassis has been adapted from that used in the 90s snap kits of the GEN4 era cars, so again the GEN6 The roll cage, dashboard, racing seats and window nets had to be modified to meet the Cup Car regulations of the GEN6. As the instrument panel of the kit has no moulded gauges at all, the instrument frame was glued with plastic pipes after applying the power slide instrument decals, and cut-off switches, warning lamps, etc. were added as appropriate, referring to the real car image of the GEN6 Chevy SS. For the bucket seats, the headrest part of the kit part has been cut off and the pad cut from the sponge seat has been glued in place, and the seatbelt has the seatbelt decal (sold separately) attached. The body was sprayed with Tamiya Super Surfacer (Grey), then sprayed with TS-14 Black and TS-35 Park Green to create a two-tone colour before applying the decals. The last image shows the Chevy SS I built alongside the Mello Yello Pontiac driven by Kyle Petty in 1991. The Mello Yello Pontiac was purchased and built when it was first released by Monogram in 1991. After completion, it was stored in a cardboard box, but after removing it from the cardboard box and refinishing the dusty body, it was restored to its original shine, which was more than I expected when I built it over 30 years ago.
  16. This car is the PETTY GMS MOTORSPORTS team Camaro ZL1 entered in the 2022 Cup Series and driven by Eric Jones. The body colour is Throwback schemes from the Goodyear 400 at Darlington in the spring. This is the first time I have built a Next Gen car from Salvinos JR Models. Although this kit is highly detailed and accurate, I had a bit of trouble assembling the suspension sections. The engine and transaxle parts, which are covered for the most part as in the real car, are barely visible after completion, so painting was omitted to a large extent and the engine hood was glued to the body. The body colour is Tamiya TS-23 Sky Blue and the decals are Powerslide #368. The last image shows it side-by-side with a Pontiac Grand Prix and a Dodge Intrepit R/T in a single colour PAINT SCHEMES Petty Blue that I built in the past.
  17. Thanks, ncbuckeye67, Sledsel, Jim N. Stock cars up to Gen 3 use production car bodies, and the variety of body styles is good.
  18. Thanks to everyone. Once painted and decals applied, the stock car looks even faster than I thought it would, and it was a fun build.
  19. This car is a 1981 Ford Thunderbird of Wood Brothers Racing and driven by Neil Bonnett. The base kit is the #15 Wrangler Thunderbird, one of the LEGEND SERIES released by Revell-Monogram in 1998, the NASCAR 50Th Anniversary Year. Watching the early 1980s races on "NASCAR Classics", I can see many so-called 'Square Bird' cars that are surprisingly fast and competing in the top group. So I decided to build this kit, which I bought about 15 years ago. This time it was built almost exclusively from box stock, with only modifications to the wheelbase and the addition of overflow pipes, fuel cell pipework, plug cords, etching mesh to the radiator grille, etc. The body was sprayed with Tamiya Super Surfacer (grey), TS-26 Pure White and the roof was TS-49 Bright Red. Decals used were Powerslide #21 Purolator Mercury Sheet and kit decals Fender Sponsor decals.
  20. 429 engine fits nicely. Excellent!
  21. Thanks, drodg, PappyD340, Michael F, Toys4Don2. Even though it looks beautiful in the photo, there are still many compromises to be made in the details of the actual product. I would like to further upgrade the next kit I make.
  22. Thanks, Pierre, jjsipes. It was surprisingly difficult to find information on the Internet about the details of the actual car that Bobby Isaac drove from 1969 to 1970, so we tried to make the chassis, cockpit, etc. "just like that".
