This is very very nice Louis, particularly considering that you started off with a very basic kit.

Did the clear red lamp covers come with the kit or aftermarket? Wondering because I am working on a 8C Alfa and looking for a set of these.

Hi Vacformed from clear red acetate the one they use in candles

I like it.  Really well done.

This might be a silly question, but why are there red covers on the headlights?

They were used at night mainly ...the idea came from submariners who seemed to maintain good vision at night with red lighting ....Those on the alfa were translucent covers were supposed to help the drivers at night

  4. This was my first ever car kit ....it was already started by my son ...he gave up and I decided to have a go at it ...this was about 5 or 6 years ago. It's  an Airfix kit in 1/24 scale

needed much work but I had fun and hence turned to car modelling from ship modeling.

    Hope you like it

Very nice!  What did you use to get that polished aluminum finish on the hood and fenders?

Gloss Enamel Black as a base ...then AK metal finishes.....a couple of days to dry then  gentle hand polish with a micro fibre cloth......once again

thanks for your comments....Best regards. Louis

I think that I can remember one your two dioramas from back then Louis.

Did it have a Sunderland flying boat in it? A superb model diorama as I  remember.

In all the times I have been coming and going between the UK and Malta I never got to the museum unfortunately. My friends on Gozo sold up the house and came back to the UK. Not sure if I will make it to Malta again as I do like the islands. But you never know. Will you or any of IPMS Malta he over here at Telford this year?

    All the best    Noel

Hi Noel yes that's the one and other was a Seaplane base in Malta ...I am attaching two pics of the dios 1/72 scale   ...Yes some guys are going up ...wish I could go with them but alas my legs fail me

I'm gonna be 75 in 3 weeks time  ..... I 'm an old codger now lol lol  thank God my hands and my eyes are still good so I can continue modelling ;)

    Best regards from Malta

Your Rolls is really taking shape Louis. Noticed in an earlier post you are in Malta.

I guess that you.might belong to the Malta IPMS? They have some excellent model makers on board. I can remember them coming to SMW at Telford a few years ago before covid and taking home a lot of trophies.

I have visited Malta quite a lot as some fzmily friends had a house on Gozo up to recently. I can remember an exhibition of models in the Arcadia Shopping Centre in Victoria once when I visited and remember a really lovely Pocher Bugatti in the display.

Morning Noel ...yep that's  us we've been going to the IPMS Nationals since they were first held in Donnington....I won best in show twice in 1995 and 1998 with two dioramas about wartime Malta ....They are now at The Aviation Museum ....Yes Gozo also have their own club and I have a few mates there .....Ah what I would give to own a Pocher....so damn expensive .....too much for my pocket I've got the Italeri one which one fine day I will have a go at it as I want to build it as a conversion ...Thanks for touching base Noel ...If ever you're in Malta send me a message I have a FB page as well ....take care Louis

Amazing work Louis, the engine compartment appears to be 1:1 scale, your scale fidelity is most impressive! I was curious about what your references were? It’s easy to find photos of modern vehicles on the web, not so much for old classics.
Beautiful work along with great photos, thanks for sharing. Cheers Misha

Got my info from the web plus ...you have to go on sites that are advertising 1/1 car sales ...I get many pics that way

  9. Ever since I was a kid I was always fascinated by firetrucks and always wanted to become a fireman when

I grow up ...Well that didn't work out well .... I worked in  Ground Operations aviation at Malta airport and many

a time I used to drop by the Fire Section and say hello to my friends the firemen .

I built this model a Trumpeter kit in 1/25 scale as a tribute to these brave men who risk their lives frequently in their

    line of work....

Detailed Interior with many parts built from scratch light included in the cabin ..fire hoses from football boots laces ....Operations console

extensively detailed .  Dechromed parts and repainted ...Finished in Gravity paints and lacquer .

The car the kit depicts I think is in either the Henry Ford Museum of the Cord, Auburn, Duesenberg museum. But the current Cream colour with Dark Green lining was not the car's original colour scheme.

The car was originally Black with the lining done in Yellow when the body was fitted by the Weinberger Coachwork company in Munich. If anyone is contemplating making a model of the car as originally supplied the wheels will need to be changed by using a set from one of the Itsaleri kits plus other minor modifications.

This particular vehicle was sold to  a German Obstetrician  Dr Fuchs in 1932 who, because of  prewar tensions emigrated to New York in 1937 and he took the car with him .This is the third car out of seven built chassis no no41121 and was painted at his own request yellow and black ...It was later found in a scrap yard in 1946 and was restored in 1947 . In 1957 it was donated to the Henry Ford Museum not in its original colours but in oyster white with modifications to the engine .
