  1. Clyde Berryman left us a year ago and left a huge void here in Williamsburg, Virginia. Clyde was a life-long motorsports enthusiast and published author (QPRS: F1 Grand Prix Racing by the Numbers – 1950-2019: Berryman, Clyde P.: 9781854433152: Amazon.com: Books) who, over the years, amassed an absolutely significant collection of books, photographs, die cast miniatures and an assortment of dioramas that sought to bring historic moments in motorsports to life...all composed and built by Clyde. Clyde worked in the State Department, traveled the world and was a man of the world. But Formula 1 captivated him and his command of the series and the players was unequalled. His basement here in Williamsburg was expressly created to create his version of a motorsports museum and as a multiple time visitor, it was spellbinding…and goodness knows how much $$ is contained in that space. His wife, Gulay, is a world-renowned artist (www.gulayberryman.com) who work has been exhibited around the world. Gulay and Clyde could absolutely contend for the world’s most interesting couple! But given the size and scope of Clyde’s collection, dispensing it has proven to be difficult. (He also has a maritime collection in another room!). It truly has to be seen to be fully appreciated. At this point, we are at a loss on how best to manage this. The predominance of the collection are die casts and the reason for posting here. We are looking for ideas, suggestions or hopefully an overture to move the collection to someone or someplace where it can continue to be enjoyed. Here's a few photos...there's way more! Thanks everyone! Bob Weber
  2. Thanks, Mathias. I did also order a sheet of Patto's carbon fiber decals and its great as I finally gave up on the Revell decals which were both old and unusually thick as Peteski pointed out. I'll post some photos once I've finished applying them. Best, Bob
  3. I'm building an older Corvette C5-R Revell kit. Likley 20+ years old. The decals are an important part of the build and extremely detailed. But they're old and I'm having a lot of trouble getting them to stick. The faux-carbon decals (in particular) seem more substancial and I've applied both Micro Sol to soften them and then Mr. MarkSetter to improve the adhesion with no success. They keep curling-up on non-flat surfaces. Any suggestions? Has anyone used a liquid glue of some sort to float the decals and adhere them? Thanks in advance for your help. Bob
  4. Hi Tony: I keep forgetting that what we here in America consider 'old' is often quite new on the other side of the pond. It's 'new' to me and I've just completed the Revell kit and on my way to the C5-R that ran at LeMans and inspired the commemorative edition production car.
  5. Okay, it wasn't F1 but Ford vs Ferrari just has to be one of the best motorsports films ever.
  6. Thank you, Trevor! I grew up in Queens, NYC and we had a slot car track facility that also had a huge model car inventory. It was called Big Daddy Livingstone's. My best friend lived a few blocks from it and we were there all the time. We also had EJ Korvettes department store that was also a great place for kits. Later on, my friend and I drove out to Scranton, Pa. to visit Oscar Koveleski's Auto World operation. I later got to meet and know Oscar via my days at Road & Track magazine as he would attend the Madison Avenue Sports Car Driving and Chowder Society lunches at Sardi's in Manhattan. What a character! 7. I've been car obsessed for as long as memories serve me and modeling was everything to me in my youth. But then the actual cars stepped into the picture and modeling took a back seat. My Father had built me a workshop bench in the basement where hours were spent building. I was a rabid IMC fan as their kits took details to the next level over AMT and MPC. JoHan ran a close second in details and accuracy. But when I left home for married life, my Mother (as I knew she would do....) dispensed with my collection. Over the past 10 years, I've been sniffing around on eBay to find the kits I once had and when priced right, I've put them in a closet for the time when I would return to modeling. That time is now! I've just purchased a 2004 C5 Corvette ZO6 LeMans Commemorative Edition, and was able to find a Revell 1/24th kit as well as a Corvette C5R 1/24th kit and these kits are launching me back into the hobby as I replicate both the car in the garage as well as the race car that inspired the street version. It's great to be back and this forum has immediately paid huge dividends as Jim R directed me to a person in Australia that provides the decal sheet that I need for the 2003 C5R LeMans paint scheme. Amazing!...thanks Jim! Question: the posts I've made thus far are being reviewed/approved by a moderator. Will this always be the case? Thanks! Bob
  8. Huge thank you, Jim!!! Patto had exactly what I needed and I've ordered the decal set and his carbon fiber decal. What a great find for a guy getting back into scale models some 55 years after building them as a car obsessed kid. Appreciatively, Bob
  9. I have the later Dale/Dale Jr. Revell kit and looking to build it in the '03 LeMans red/white/blue paint scheme and was hoping that there is a place that I can source the decal set for the car. I know that Revell had offered a kit in this configuration but I haven't had any success finding a reasonable priced kit to source the decals. Any suggestions/ideas are welcomed! Thanks! Bob
