Thanks everybody for your interest and comments.  Some aircraft adaptations of the Mazda 13B engine appear to only use two intake ports.  BTW, Tamiya did do full detail kits (coupe and roadster) of the Savana RX-7 with engines, but the engines have little detail on the intake/exhaust side.  I'm planning to use a resin copy of the Monogram RX-7 engine in an MPC race-version Fiero, maybe converting it to a front engine configuration.  With a rotary up front and a transaxle out back, it still would have had excellent weight distribution and much more power as well.

The Monogram Mazda RX-7 has a Y-shaped intake manifold for the 2-rotor engine.  However, I think it had four ports, the center two close together.  Any interested experts out there?  Also, is this kit version or the Tamiya version better?

[Those that have done resin casting; what is your favorite casting resin?]

I only cast parts for myself, in one-part molds usually, so I'm a low-volume user.  I want a resin with very low VOC, or offensive odors, and one that is easy to carve, but reasonably strong for bodies.  Also, one which does not spoil before I can use it.  I've tried Alumalite, Smooth-On and MicroMark.  I prefer MicroMark 300CR, as it satisfies my requirements.  I've read that Smooth-On and Micromark come from the same source, but my experience is that S-O goes bad much quicker.

Excellent in all ways!  I completely agree about styrene tires - I often cast tires for my model cars, particularly to allow modifications.  And styrene or resin tires can be painted.

The first picture is after I cut out a hood opening and superglued the front end on.  It shows a bit of the overzealous glue application from the original build.  I'd love to hear from other custom builders (Are you there Bill Stillwagon?);  I'm already planning to extend the grille upper lip about 2 mm.  I'm wondering about the extreme undercut on the sides:  should I fill it to match up with the front better?

This little project was inspired by the August 1987 issue of Scale Auto Enthusiast which I found in my basement.  It focuses on Vettes and even includes some custom builds.  I recently got an AMT/Ertl C4 glue bomb body and interior for $0.82 and of course I had to start the butchery.  Warning:  I'll probably never get this past the primer stage (but with all necessary subassemblies), as usual.  I wanted to do something to the nose and roof primarily.  Then I decided the faux Ferrari cut line/trim strip had to go.  So here it is:
