  1. Hey all, I am wanting to do a city diorama (I have an empty basement, but no money to do the railroad thing) Im wanting to do a full city w/suburbs, and I want to start with the Inner City because I like building the "gangster/flashy" vehicles the most. Here is what im looking for maybe you can help me as this is my first diorama so I dont have a list of good suppliers: Vehicle Rims (I could just pay $20ea for the Revel DONKS kits, but I'd rather buy cheaper and add my own big rims) Figurines -Cops, Gangsters(i'd rather not use Homies) Diorama stuff - I know I can buy gas station kits, but im wanting to build some run down houses, housing projects etc...can anyone point me in the direction of where I might find these things? And also if you know of any good hobby shops in the Kansas City/Overland Park area i'd love to know, just moved down here and dont know much of the area.
  2. wow, thanks for all the info. will be going to walmart tonight it appears.
  3. the comp orange is model masters, and ugh. I only have enamel primers and they are testors lol. Where do you get this Plastikote? Autozone?
  4. wow thanks the wife did the chrome trim with a brush, and since then ive gone to the hobby store to get a little jar of the saphire blue to touch up things. That black really hid the messups well. I can feel myself getting better all the time, the underbody really is looking good even though i chose not to paint all of it because i want to get on to other things... Ill post more pics tomorrow.
  5. So i got some competetion orange Laquer paint, but when i went to put it on the springs, it just kind of looked really watery. Didnt stick well at all. Am i supposed to prime first, and if so does it have to be a laquer primer? I didnt even realize i bought laquer til something just wasnt right and i looked at the bottle. And I am working on unprimed plastic but its been fine so far with the enamels. though on future projects i will be using primer on everything. Thanks for the help.
  6. Some updates, still havent got to building. But painting sure is alot of fun ehehe.
  7. and what about the trim? do you sand after paint or some other way?
  8. sweet thank you very much.
  9. That is a sweet ride lownslow. I really like it. Where do you get a lift kit like that? do you have to buy a truck model and take it or is there some aftermarket kit you can buy?
  10. I have been searching and searching, but havent found any help with applying a chameleon like paint job, where you can see multiple colors depending on how light hits the car. Is it even possible with model cars? Im sure it is but how would this effect be attained? Is there a premade paint or even better a way to do it custom so you could put however many colors/combinations you wanted? Also in general i posted a topic about buying an Iwata Airbrush and compressor but not sure which airbrush to get(lots to choose from) if i could get some help over there on that as well Id REALLY appreciate it Thanks guys
  11. thanks, all fixed and ready for everyones help
  12. How do i get my pictures to show up there in the above topic? i used the img code and uploaded them to my website but no luck?
  13. So im diving head first into modelling, and yesterday bought two escalade kits, one an EXT and the other a regular escalade. Original idea was to take the subbox from the regular escalade and put it in the EXT. But not sure now, anyway im practicing on the regular model so when I do the EXT I can do a really nice job. Heres the first look at body paint with a few questions.... So i realized AFTER painting it and getting on the forums that One I really should wash the parts, TWO I really should prime it (didnt buy any primer though, ahwell just paint right?) And Three scotch tape from walgreens should not be used. Also testors brushes really do suck ( i havent used mine but they just look sucky in the packages) So questions on the first pic: How can I clean those lines? And if you notice over the driver fender, I messed my tape line up how can i bring the paint down to the trim line and match it? I painted with a Spray can and I dont want to mess up the color match, even though at parts its not hehe. Another Question, that white line that sticks out I want to paint it gold or chrome, what is the best way to apply this as it is so thin, and apply the same to the Escalade Lettering on the side of the truck? On this picture, I really want to shave the doors, no handles. What kind of putty do you guys recommend for doing this? some more messed up lines Here is the one im going to do some drastic things too, I already cut the back seat from the interior set, i want to mold in a subbox that came with the other escalade kit. I also would like to do the Lambo Doors, but is this a wise idea on a kit that doesnt already have seperate doors? And the interior is one box, so I suppose i would need to cut out the panel from the interior box etc... I saw the lambo doors with the floss thing(wifey is a dentist we got lots ) and id like to do the same thing but not sure if that kit had seperate doors or was it cut away. Thanks for the help, love the forums Steve-O
  14. Hey all, im extremely new to the modeling world, but am diving in head first as the wife wants me to take up a new hobby instead of computer games. Anyways after reading the forums last night for hours on end I came to the realization that im going to need an airbrush. Well this is excellent because my wife has been wanting one for awhile as shes an artist, and when the wife wants something and so do I it makes conversation over expense a really really easy topic to deal with So question is, Iwata seems to be the name to go with but which one? I looked at the eclipse series, the High Performance series and the Kustom Series. But im not sure which is the best. Help me out here. Also on compressors I was looking at the Iwata Power Jet Pro, as the wife wants to do T-shirts and what not. Anyone have experience with any of the Iwata Compressors? Also I see lots of people talk about multiple tips/nozzles, but I cant find them on the iwata website? AND one last question, where do you shop?
