The trickiest parts would probably be the grill and some of the exterior emblems, especially the hood and trunk emblems as they are completely different on a '62. Some smaller differences are also in the interior, for example a gauge cluster and door panels, but those could probably be modified from existing kit parts with some extra work.

The grill would be tricky to scratchbuild. Sure, someone can do it and actually I might try it in the future, too (because I have 1:1 scale '62 Chevy II in the garage), but I'd say it's too much work for most modelers.  Nowadays 3D printing would be one option to create that part, but it would require someone with the skills of creating the part on computer AND a good quality 3D printer where the finsihed parts have zero "3D print texture" (because it would be nearly impossible to sand smooth between the grill bars).

The chrome emblems on the body could be created by photo etching, but at least I don't have the computer skills to create the "master".:P

And, as Moebius has done several race car versions of their kits, the '62 tooling would have potential for that as well. Don Nicholson won B/FX class in NHRA Winternationals 1962 with this '62 Chevy II Wagon, powered by a Fuel Injected 327 out of a Corvette.

I have that project under way. I don't know what color the interior trim is. Is it Red? Blue?

  2. A few years ago,  I bought a 67 Mustang Coupe from Motor City Resin. It was quite nice, and was a good value for the money. My intention is to do a build of Carroll Shelby's "Little Red" with it. All I need to do is fit an engine in it, and it's off to paint and detailing.  It mated up well with AMT's 67 Shelby GT350.

  3. I like to watch HPI Guys builds. He shows me what's in the box, and that's very important to me. I'm not too hip on his Krylon color choices, nor his usage of a silver Sharpie for chrome trim, as well as his lack of knowledge on the subject kit, but he is having a ball, and that is what counts.

One of the fruits of a recent trade with Keith, (Bucky).

This extremely nice original issue AMT 1966 Plymouth Barracuda kit.

Pretty excited to see what I can do with it! :)

Anybody have a good idea if there is a good chassis and engine swap available from a modern kit?

Looks as if the Revell '69 Dart is a good match, although the chassis is a bit too long.

Any others that anyone knows of?

I shortened an AMT 71 Duster Chassis. I also used the underhood area too.

Did Chevrolet offer a V8/manual transmission in the '88 Silverado?  I shopped trucks in early '88, the Chevy dealer told me you had to take an automatic (another $1,000 or so) to get a V8, even a 305.  I drove a V6/stick but it was on the pokey side.  I probably still have the brochure, as I remember it did not contradict what I was told at the time.  They knew they'd lose the sale over that, so if they were fibbing just to sell the automatic they'd have changed their minds and just sold me what I wanted.

I was a salesman at a very large dealer when these trucks came out. We had a few 305 V8/ manual transmission 1/2 ton trucks in stock.I really liked the way the truck drove.350s were very scarce.

I think it's  VERY cool kit. There's enough there to make something nice! I'm glad to see something different nowadays. The interior isn't a biggie because I'm sure SOMEONE out there in resin land will fab up what's needed in order to make it factory-stock. Swirls and other minor bodywork-related issues can easily be overcome. Enjoy the kit for what is IS or don't BUY it; NOT a difficult decision at ALL. Thank you for sharing the pictures of what's inside. I'm going to buy two of them.

    Exactly!

  7. I picked mine up yesterday ,and I like the look of it. I have never seen the Supernatural TV show, so I have no interest in that particular version. I decided to build a replica stock 67 Impala 4 door hardtop. I did my research concerning what was available from the factory. I have a deep parts box, so doing an interesting variation will not be a problem. I believe that I have the front seat issue solved, but I have yet to lay a finger on the kit.

    Thanks Ron!

I think this would be another kit that would be fun to do a full chassis and engine swap with.

The stumbling block will be a finding a chassis to fit.

I suspect that it would require a chassis stretch from possibly a '65-'67 Impala?

    Not sure at this point.

When I did the 65 Oldsmobile Dynamic 88 convertible, I used the chassis, suspension, firewall, core support and radiator from the Revell 65 Impala SS, the engine, accessories, and transmission from the Revell 72 Olds Cutlass, and the Air Cleaner from the Johan 63 Olds Starfire. It worked out fine with just a little tweaking.

Very nice! I have one in my collection to do over that is almost as nice. I had one as a 9 year old gluebombed in 1965. Dad had a 65 98. I painted it with some leftover paint by number oil paint. Boy did it reek. In hindsight I would have done better not painting it.

I can't wait to see the masterpiece you end up with.
