  1. Buy one, they are great fun! You have a commanding view of the road and they can be modified very easily to make a custom van. We miss ours. Slam
  2. Very nice. I have been tempted by this kit a couple of times, but not yet bought it. It looks like it has lots of potential for customisation... Slam
  3. I prefer the Revel kits. The 1980s VW Vanagon kit went together with no issues, even modifing it was easy. I just bought an Ertl '70 Dodge Charger and it was shocking. The whole kit was covered in flash and the engine parts have gaping holes between halves when mated. That said, the Ertl Chevvy Chevelle kit I built last went together like a dream. I guess it depends when the kit was tooled and how well the tooling has been stored. Slam

  5. Great model, great paint. I like the garage too. Slam
  6. I spray my cars with auto paint in a rattle can. I can get a reasonable finish using these, especially if I finish with a lacquer spray and cut back using cutting compound. But how can I get a mirror like finish, especially over contours? I get scare having tried to cut these areas by gentle rubbing using a cloth and taking the spray back to the primer on the edges. As you can see on my other posts in the "under glass" section, the large areas look OK, but the fenders look orange peeled. Please tell me your secrets!! Slam
  7. Hi Guys, This was my previous (third) attempt at auto modelling. It is a Revell model of a VW Westfalia. I installed a GM V8 on the original gearbox transmission, made custom big bore exhausts, lowered it, used Fujimi alloys, fabricated some brake discs from washers, customised the interior a bit, put a lower grill on for the radiator, made the upper grill into the 4 headlight grill and put a bodykit on including the big front bumper. Unfortunately, it was too cold when I sprayed the body and the paint crazed when it dried. Since the photo was taken, I have stripped it down, resprayed it and put a clear coat over the top. I just need to detail it again. I use rattle cans and auto paint for my models, but may have to invest in an airbrush after seeing what others can do. The windshield has a crack in it as the side window did not sit right in the aperature, which is a pity. Excuse the red paint on the underside of the rear hatch, that got painted black to simulate the seal. Slamdunk
  8. Hi, I'm a Newbie here. Having lived in the US for 6 months with work, I fell in love with muscle cars. On my return to the UK I had serious withdraw symptoms and trawled Ebay for kits. I found this AMT Chevelle kit and love the shape of it. I reshaped the rear windows to curve them (like the 67? Chevelle) as I thought it suited the overall shape better. It is lowered on Fujimi wheels and brakes. I wll post some more pics when I am on my other machine. Apart from that it is pretty standard. It is only the fourth car I have ever built, hopefully my skills will improve as I build more. I am envious of your skills; there are some fantastic models photographed on here. Slam
