  1. I'd like to find the instructions for the Monogram 1/12 Camaro. I could probably get it built without them but I'd prefer to have them. Maybe some I can download?? Thanks, Ron
  2. Many moons ago I had an Aztek single action airbrush (A320) and got excellent results spraying (unthinned) Tamiya acrylics using canned air at first and then later on, a compressor. I no longer have that one but I do have the double action A430 and still have my compressor equipped with a water trap and regulator. I tried priming (Revell '69 Nova SS) with Tamiya tonight. The hood turned out nice but when I started on the body I got some lumps. Not many, but even one is too many. I didn't want to make noise (the boss was napping) digging out the compressor so for the priming step I was using the air can and a .45 mm nozzle. Could the spatters be due to the drop in the can pressure from very high to kinda low? Or maybe I need more practice balancing the air to volume of paint with a double action airbrush?? Other than the three or four spatters, it had nice uniform coverage.
  3. I'm looking for some visual aid like a schematic or detailed pics so I can add a throttle linkage, fuel line, etc. on Revell's 1/12 Bel Air fuel injected motor, without buying an expensive shop manual. Can anyone tell me if there's a source on the web that might help? Thanks, Ron
  4. Has anyone got tips on scratch building headers? I considered using metal wire of the correct diameter, then painting a flat off-white color, but I'm not sure how to deal with the mounting flanges. Any advice? Thanks
  5. The bean counter (wife) is actually willing to release some funds to me despite knowing I'll beat feet down to the LHS. I've been eyeing the Revell 1/8 duece kit on recent trips there. The problem is that now they have two of them, and the boxes are different. One of them features a blue one and has a banner saying something like "75th Anniversary" and the other one shows one in a reddish color with a top on it and says something like "Street Rod". Are the contents the same?
  6. Returning to car and truck modeling after a very long absence, I was a little disappointed in the first couple of forums I looked into. One of them, which covers multiple modeling subjects, had a lot of postings under "auto" but there was a lot of viewing and not much responding, and it was as if there were no other scales in the world except 1/24 and 1/25. I asked a question and got like 20 views but no responses. The other model car forum had several topics where the latest postings were dated 3 or 4 years ago and seemed to be mainly a work in progress pic gallery. I like looking at those, but I like them better when they show what's been done since they were taken 5 years ago! After reading just a few posting here, I knew I had found a source of useful and entertaining information. I also like the fact that everything is not focused on one particular scale. I know I'm going to like it here.
  7. I've been away from car and truck modeling for about 30 years. I started out with model cars in high school in the mid-sixties (yeah, I'm old). I kind of drifted away from car kits in adulthood. Although I went to 1:1 car shows, worked on a couple of project cars, and remained interested in classics and muscle cars, when I did modeling it was usually a ship kit. It got to be too expensive compared to automotive modeling. I decided it was time to return to my first love and build some model cars. I have a lot of catching up to do. I've window shopped in the car section of a local hobby shop and started reading the mags and forums. What I'm wondering about is how to tell whether a kit in an original looking box has been "improved" with new tooling? Some of the kits in the LHS have been sitting on the shelf for 5 or more years, and some of them just arrived. If they're re-released with the original box design is there a way to know what's what, like maybe checking a kit # used by the manufacturer? Any advice for this old "newbie" would be appreciated.
