  3. Well, I just finished my wheel wells with my new Dremel tool. This thing is awesome and it is very easy to use. I found that it works slow enough where I can free hand the wheel wells and have pretty consistant results across the board. I bought the electrical powered version of the Dremel. It has a variable speed adjustment, I used the lowest setting and it worked out great. My intentions with this tool are to modify car bodys, so I think it is just perfect for what I wanted to achieve.
  4. Wow what a difference between the Tamiya paints vs Testors. There is a world of difference between the two. I am glad that I posted this question. The quality of the Tamiya is evident from the get go. Thanks for all the input guys, I really appreciated. I will post pics of this project as soon as I am done with it.
  5. Great job on those, impressive. Good idea on combining the kit with a machined part.
  6. Brian, I have seen the pics and they look really great. Lots of details. The pricing is not too bad on them either.
  7. Mr. Can AM, Thanks for the info. I figured there was something different about this type of material. I must ask, why resin? It seems there is so much in plastic. Are there any advantages with resin? There are some very nice resin kits, but it seems that most of them are only partial kits and not complete kits. These are new to me, I have never actually seen one, but I am sure that when I finish with the projects I have here, a resin kit would be a great next project. It will be interesting to experiment with one of these.
  8. Wow, that sounds like a cool way of doing it, looks great on the pic! I am sure the paint will hold up just fine.
  9. What are you guys using for spark plug wiring? Is it cloth? I have been looking at some of detailed motor pics, it looks like a fishing line we use for big game fishing. It comes in white, yellow, and green. The term used to describe this line is braided hollow core kevlar line. The most popular trade name is PowerPro, perhaps some of you might be familiar with it. It seems that the diameter of the line is ideal. There are many diameters available, some thick enough to perhaps make radiator hoses. The hollow core can be streched over a plastic part to simulate a braided hose, painting it in aluminum or any other color would be interesting. Since the line is not going to go in the water the paint will hold up fine.
  10. Guys I just purchased a Dremel tool to facilitate cutting and doing general body work. What methods are you guys using to make wheel wells larger? I am building a Ford Galaxie stock car. I need to make the wheel wells larger to fit some really cool Hoosier tires I recently purchased on ebay. I want to do this right the first time. I have never ventured this far into a model before, but some of the stuff you guys are posting on here coupled with the pics on the websites, and forums, well, they are just too tempting! I too want to be a modeling guru, so all feedback is greatly appreciated!
  11. Marcos, Those are awesome. Great job. I have to ask, are those real metal?
  12. Andy, That is outstanding! Beautiful job, I love the details on the engine.
  13. Bill, Funny you mention the magnet thing. I have never used a magnet car. I have to tell you though, I just LOVE those Fly Cars!!!! I don't even go to the website, the last time I played with that shopping cart, I was up to about 1300 bucks, and there were plenty of pages left!!! I am looking forward to putting a track together. I miss this hobby a lot. It's just funny that I stopped building models and racing slots when I was 12 or 13, can't remember when exactly, now I am 48 and I can't wait to get a track! Oh well, I guess getting older is not such a bad thing. One good thing though, I now have the cash to drop on some really kewl stuff!!!! He who dies with the MOST toys wins!
  14. Slotbaker, My chassis is totally different than that one, doesn't look anything like it, and I am 100% sure the chassis is from the Chap 2E. Did Cox make 2 different models of this car?
  15. I have never put together a resin kit. Is there a source where I can get all the info on both assembly and painting? Can resin be glued on to a regular plastic kit?
  16. Any experience with these? Do these have to be assembled or do they come preassembled? How well do they fit AMT models?
  17. WOW, I can't believe that. I still have the original chasis for the Cox Winged Chapparel.
  18. Boy those tracks sure bring some back some memories! Back in the mid to early 70s we had several Hobby Shops that had slot tracks. My favorite was Orange Blossom Hobbies in Miami, where I grew up. I had several cars. My favorite the Cox Chapparel with the high WORKING spoiler! Cool, way cool, this is one of those slot cars that you have to see if you have never seen one. I also had a few others. I have always been a huge fan of Lemans race cars, I build a lot of these models, particularly the Porsche 917, 917K, and others. I had the whole 917 collection from the movie Lemans with Steve McQueen. These tracks disappeared here in Florida back in the early 70s. They made a brief appearance in the latter 80s, but not for long. There were a few franchised stores by the name of "The Hobby Box", these opened, but closed soon after. In 1980 I was in Puerto Rico and visited a hobby shop with a very nice slot track that was located in Plaza Las Americas in San Juan, never got to spend any time there but it was very nice. Today I don't think that we have any tracks anywhere in South Florida, better yet, I think there may be 3 hobby shops in this huge area. Parents are too busy to show kids the fun of racing slots and building models, so I gather this is why things are the way they are, at least here in South Florida. I have a Revell Rebel 400 1/32 scale track. Currently I do not have any space in my home to use the track. My garage is where I run my fishing business from so my space is zip. I am planning to build a home in South Carolina. My plans are to build a 2 story barn, the 1st floor will be the business, the 2nd floor my hobby area. I want to purchase a couple of the larger Scaletric tracks to combine them into one huge track, then spend a ton of cash on those Fly Cars. Those cars are totally AWESOME! I love them. They have so many Porches and Ferraris, both current and vintage, all very nice, superb detailing, very nice to look at. I am very anxious to get some of these for myself.
  19. Now I have not seen those engines. I am going to do a search and check them out. Thanks for the heads up!
  20. Steve, VW, Man am I glad that I asked this question. I really like that black with the green metallic over it. That is the exact color I wanted to achieve. I think that a few coats of gloss black over purple will cover it well. I also like the gold under green, very nice. I wonder what a metallic yellow would look like? I am going to experiment with the spoons see what I come up with. I much rather screw up the spoon than the bodies. These are two Lil Coffin Hot Rods that I don't want to ruin. I've hard a hard time locating them. I just don't want them in purple, plum, wine, or whatever Monogram calls that color. I would also love to gold plate some of the chrome parts on the emerald green version I am looking to do. I just don't know if that is feasable. I was told to use a yellow permanent marker and go over the chrome with that, but I haven't seen what that looks like yet, I will have to try it out. When I was building models in the early 70s and now, I tend to want to build in different colors than what comes out of the box. Unless they are Lemans Formula cars. Those I paint to maintain the cars racing identity and race team. The hot rod, dragster, funny car, and stock cars I like to experiment with. I have seen some models with alternate engines. I have been looking around to see if I could find some 1/24 scale motors that I could purchase. That would be a cool twist to some of these cars I have lined up.
  21. I have 2 new projects that I am going to start. One I want to paint in Metal Flake Green, and the other in Metal Flake Yellow. What is the best approach to paint with metal flake paint? The project has to be primed because one is black and the other is a dark purple, I am planning to put the metal flake green over the purple and the yellow over the black. Input? I this a bad idea? Should I consider another color or go with non metallic? All input greatly appreciated!
  22. You are most welcomed. I am not a pro modeler, came here to learn but respirators and machines along those lines are right up my alley! Glad to shed some light on the subject.
  23. Jay Vee, The respirator you need is made by 3M. It is the model 6000 with dual replaceable cartridges. This is the way to go. I do not put too much faith on disposable respirators. Fit is very important, particularly if you have a beard. Paints like Awlgrip, etc. are very dangerous. Exposure will kill you. Exposure causes a condition know as ARDS. Basically the lung is made more porous by the inhaled chemical, and the blood rushes into the air sacs. This blood destroys an enzyme, surfactant. The function of surfactant is to keep the lungs inflated, and it is rarely reversable under such conditions (destruction of lung tissue). Prior to getting into the tackle business I worked, and continue to work, part time as a respiratory therapist. I have seen this complication due to exposure to paint 3 times in the last year alone. It is not a pleasant experience. I can tell you that it is worth spending the extra $$$ on the right equipment. The filters need to be changed as recommended if not before.
