just cleaning my dispaly area up and took some new pics of my dukes of hazzard collection so far,
MPC cop car kit, Revell charger with the MPC decals and tires
-
Love it, and agreed on just the right amount of weathering.
What did you use (looks like green wrapped wire?) to simulate the weld beads at the various joints?
thanks guys! For welds I used stretched sprue, I Iike to use a different color so I can see what I'm doing lol. Just soften it with glue and poke with a knife to make the weld patterns.

well it's that time of year again, gotta get the old plow truck running lol
got the plow unit built up and painted with craft paint
-
Finished up the Mercedes 1628 tonight. Revell-Germany kit
painted with craft acrylics. -
hey guys, just been working on the revell germany kit.
i got the chassis all together now, everything is painted with craft acrylics and weathered with oils and concrete mix for the dirt.
-
thanks!,
painted up the first mast and stuck on some lines.

decided to try a ship for something different!
I picked up a few of these old revell kit to get started with. first up is the Bounty.
airbrushed with craft acrylics.
I wanted the masts to be a lighter color than the rest of the wood like an oak looking color so I painted them with flesh craft paint then went over with raw umber oils and some paynes grey to make shadows
also went with a bronze figure head, it shows the nice detail in it better than painting it i think
-
figured id make a new thread for the finish so it loads faster with all the pics.
painted with a custom mix of craft acrylics and weathered with oils. all sealed with Liquitex matte varnish
thanks for looking! -
thanks man! i recommend the craft paint if your interested in saving money
I went around the tank adding a bunch of tiny chipping and scratches, added some stuff on the back like a bucket and extra track. and detail painted the spent round on the engine deck.
-
got one of the tracks installed, also some more paint on the figure.
-
That is an awesome paint job!! I didn't know you could get a finish that good from craft paints. I'm impressed!
lol thanks! when you wanna save money on paint you work with it until you figure it out
painted up this figure from a miniart set, not really liking it though. think I will buy a resin figure instead.
-
thanks for the links!, i really dont take it to the rivet counter extreme though haha or enter contests, so as long as it looks like what it is im happy
but since its been pointed out to me a million times lol, I added camo stripes around the tank. the Rye Field instructions don't say to add anything! i figured the best way to add them after the fact was to spray them with thinned down artist oils. worked pretty good
-
Thanks!, the kit is real nice. And for all the stuff in the box you can't beat it on the price.
i like the regular dark yellow, that's what I think of on an Africa vehicle. The instructions in this kit don't call for any camo pattern just a solid color. They tell you to paint it "rlm02 gray" which looks like a pea green/yellow in their drawing. But the box art looks yellow

lol yeah the bolt head on the fenders. They do include several bolt head detail on the sprue runners of both "D" sprues if you wanted to sand them off and move them, Also I wanted to see the tracks better on the finished model, on the color I just mixed a few yellow and brown craft paint together to make a base yellow and a bit of a lighter yellow.
-
hey guys, been posting some on facebook, thought I'd share it on the forum also.
the build went together really easy with no real issues.
addeda bit of texture with bondo and added a few welds around.I'm just starting on the painting now, I use dupli-color primer, and then everything else is craft paints.

I use printing plates also, mine have some blue coating on one side, I just sand it off, move up the grits to get polished look if desired.
-
looks awesome. What do you do for the patina on the body? paint different layers, then sand through?
thanks guys,
for the paint I airbrush duplicolor red primer on, then added more brown colors to that, then airbrushed the blue over top leaving some rust spots.
then go back over with some artist oils to add some more fading and rain streaks, scratches etc. Seal all in with a flat varnish
-
finished up this build!
-
thanks guys for looking, unfortunately I built the chassis completely box stock so it will be sitting a bit high, I'll change that on the next one. you just need to cut the front leaf spring off and modify the shocks if you wanna lower it.
i painted the dash and steering wheel. flames are always cool lol
-
I've used this on my 1:1 motorcycle and it's surprising how much dirt came off! lol, But it won't do anything for a model car as far as polishing out orange peel.
-
That's cool! ?

hey guys making some progress on this . used the hemi from the '32, 5 window kit and the hat from the smokey & bandit kit, otherwise pretty out of box

thanks! Yeah but I'm undecided on using this GMC truck or putting it on the new Bronco kit lol maybe I'll have to make an older looking plow for the bronco with round lights etc
