  1. Its been a while since i updated this as ive been really busy before christmas. Over the Christmas break i decided to get on with the corvette project and aimed to get it finished in early January as i knew my free time would be taken up alot with once the FIA Race season started again. After endless hours of filling, sanding, guide coat, primer etc etc i got a reasonable looking bodyshell ready for paint. After 5 coats of Ferrari 308 red it was then given 3 coats of clear. The interior was flocked once it had been painted satin black and seats were painted red/black to match the real thing. The roof was painted with enamel chrome paint but its not very good as you only have to catch it with your finger and its starts to dull. Chrome film was applied around the window pillars and rear window trim. I didnt like the kit exhausts so i cut the tailpipe off and replaced them with 4mm ally tube. In the end i made a master that looked close to an holley carb and made a cast from that, the scoop was taken from a cast of that from kuhl & olsen dragster kit. I would have liked to plumb the motor but i didnt have any images of the real thing to copy and i just ran out of time as my mate was picking up 13th jan when i was down in my area of the country.
  2. Nice looking model you have there. As already stated you dont see alot of these built up. I have 2 of them one is built up out of the box and another was used for a donor or a Whit Bazemore car.
  3. This the guys web site if you need to contact, Theres not alot of photos of his work on there as i think he's still working on the site but ive got a few projects all with his decals on that i can supply images for. http://www.cbtransfers.co.uk/home Regards Gareth
  4. I know of a guy here in teh UK that can make any custom decals you like, He uses the ALPS printer and they are water slide. He is not the cheapest around but they are very good quality and well worth the money
  5. Thanks for the info guys most gratefull. 1/25th & 1/16th would explain the higher numbers in the series. Did all the signature series kits come with a model of the driver? Reason being i have 2 re-isue 25th scale kits of Jeb Allens red Prayin Mantis. I will have to go through all my kits as i may have some that signature series and not know about it as i wasnt aware they come in 25th scale aswell
  6. Thanks for comments guys. I can see this one being a long process to get it right. Gave it a little primer today to help with the rubbing down and guide me where more filler is needed etc. Thanks, What sort of goodies do you sell and do you have a web site?
  7. Sorry i was not clear with my post their. I was suposed to of said - what did the number of signature kits go up to i.e 25 etc, I wouldnt expect anyone ( not even revell ) to know how many over all was produced and sold. Thanks for the info so far guys its a great help. Just found an old pic from the 70s that my dad took of some of the kits he built. I can see that he owned the garlitts swap rat, jeb allen prayin mantis, K&O da revell fast guys , MT's Yellow grand am and the Gene Snow Vega. Thanks once again Regards Gareth
  8. I have a couple of 16th scale dragsters and funny cars from Revell. A few of them have signature series on them. Would anyone know how many of these Revell produced and what numbers they where? I currently have Tom "The Mongoose" McEwen's - Fly Navy Don Garlitts - Swamp Rat Jeb Allen - Prayin Mantis Gene Snows - Snowman charger FC And enough parts and decals to build Don "The snake" Pruddhomme - US Army dragster I would be keen to see if i can collect all of them if they can be found Others i have in stock that are not signature series Pruddhomme Wynns Wider X3 - One will be Dennis Priddles "MR Revell" Garlitts Swap Rat (80s edt) X3 Mickey Thompson Revelation Grand am ( RED) Grateful for any info on the above
  9. A mate of mine as asked me to build a replica of his street legal blown C3 Corvette. I have started with a 79 Indy pace car kit from MPC as the base to work with. As it was pointed out to me by a fellow member that MPC kits are bit ropey he wasnt wrong. I dont think i will buying another one, from the poor fit of parts to amount of flash that needs removing before you can fit a part. Here are a few progress shots, its bit rough at present as its needs some more filler etc. The real thing The car itself as what i think is the street version of the ecklers daytona bodykit so i have had to make all of this from scratch using plasticard. The motor in the real car is blwon using a blower from old nitro funny car with 2 big holley carbs and hilborn injector style intake. The blower on my model was in the spares box from an 16th scale revell FC kit, i will be scratch building the carbs as its going to work expensive by the time i have bought them from the states and paid import tax etc. Again i could only find a scoop like this from competion resins but to keep the cost down i had a go at making my own. My mate supplied me with the measurements so i scaled these down, The main body of the scoop was made from a 24th scale air tank off a truck or trailer found in the spares box, I had to extend it down the middle by 3 mm. The fron lip was roughly cut to shape and glued on, after alot of filing and sanding i finally got something i was happy with. The body is going to be painted 1979 308 ferrari red. Will keep you posted when more as been done.
  10. Thats correct in the NHRA all nitro classes ( not sure on nostelgia class) were cut the 1000ft due to the death of Scott Kalitta. As a result here in the UK/Europe FIA rounds we follow the NHRA rules but 1 year behind, It was agreed that Santa Pod & Hockenhiem would stay the full 1/4 and Mantorp & Alstaro would be cut to 1000ft Mantorp was cut as there was not enough shut down area and Alastaro was cut due to the lack of guard rails after the 1/4 mile. Mantorp as now lost its FIA licence and the all new Tierp arena as tooks it place, when this was built it was agreed that it would be a full 1/4 for top fuel dragster but weeks before the event opened it was changed to 1000ft Now our season is over for 2011 its been agreed accross the board the that all FIA rounds in 2012 will be a 1000ft for top fuel. We dont really a fuel funny car class in europe as there are only an handfull of them out its been agreed this can stay a 1/4 until they break the sub 5s et. Though there as been talks of cutting our top methonal cars down the 1000ft aswell. One of the main reasons was the drivers all voted for the swap ( its their life behind the wheel at the end of the day) but all our parts our bought from the USA and all most all the parts/set ups and tuning it designed for the 1000ft it was only a matter of time. I dont really like to get into the argument of 1000ft v 1/4 as i am an hardcore drag racing fan however this year i worked on a top fuel dragster as a cyclinder head mechanic and when i am stood on the start line watching the run from behind i cant tell if they run the 1000ft or 1/4, I am told you can tell the difference aswell from the 1000ft to a 1/4 mile when you service the car as there is a lot less top end waer/damage. Its sad to see Bernstein call it a day its sad to see but i think he wont be the only one in the current climate and think there will be a few more in europe aswell, this i do hope does not happen as we only have at most a 10 car field on a good race meeting. I will always remember watching the NHRA when my old Boss Andy Carter ran against Bernstein, I beleive he got to the line first but it was dissallowed as andy crossed the centre line when the panels ripped off the car back in 09
  11. I will also say thank you on this one wayne as ive also got this kit to build but the box art as faded Look forward to seeing the progress on this one
  12. Looking forward to seeing this one finished, Big fan of 16th scale dragsters/funny cars etc. When i built my Garlitts car i replaced most of the plastic fittings for the fuel and oil lines with metal ones and braided hoses and painted the fittings silver and then tamiya clear red and clear blue Hope this helps
  13. Thanks for the replies guys. The bucket seats are cobra daytona recliner seats, They been around int he UK for good 6 years or so, If this style can be found in 1/16th? As for the carbs can the ones from general lee be found anywhere online - I.E resin copies as i dont really want to buy a £50 kit and only use the carbs. Just waiting for my corvette to arrive from america. This is what i hope the model will look like. Keep you posted as soon as i make a start.
  14. I built this supra for a friend as copy of the one he used to own. this was done in pearl white. Some people may not do it this way but this is how i did mine. I applied 2 even coats of white base down and allowed it it to dry. I then applied 2 coats of the white pear top coat - an old school painter told me to keep the paint in the same direction and if painting panels off the car make sure you paint them in the same direction and the same amount of coats. Once this had flashed off i gave it 2 coats of high gloss lacquer. The colour i used was a 2 stage pearl from toyota. Hope this helps.
  15. I have been asked to build a model of my mates corvette. For the base model i will be using the MPC pace car corvette kit. My mate as built the engine in his vette for street/strip use and i want to make the model as close to the real thing as possible. I am looking for a set of carbs similar to these in the photo, I will be using a scoop from hilborn injection set from competion resins I have only ever built dragsters/Funny cars in this scale and have no idea where i can get detailing parts from for road cars etc. I am also looking for other things such as reclining style bucket/race seats etc. can anyone advise me of anyone who sells this sort of thing? Regards Gareth
  16. I managed to find a few pics of this car that i took at dragstalgia this year I think ive got a few more from an event i went to at shakey a few years ago. As for your decals, I am not trying to take buisness off people but i use a guy in the UK called Chris Moxham. He's made several sets of decals for in the past for model trucks that ive built and couple of drag racing projects. Here is an example of the work hes done for me He can be contacted at www.cbtransfers.co.uk He is not the cheapest around but you get what you pay for and his work is top notch
  17. I am also a 1/16th fan. I have only built 16th scale dragsters in the past and made a start on a funny car. It would be nice to see a re-release or even new 16th dragster & funny cars Would anyone know of online suppliers of 16th scale parts? As stated ive built dragsters before and i can find parts for them easily but i will be starting on a road car soon and need to source items such as racing carbs and bucket seats?
  18. Thanks for info guys. When i first got asked to build a mdoel of it i managed to find the reissued AMT ecklers corvette and i then out it was the wrong shape as my mates cars an 82 with the wrap around rear window. I recently missed the ghost rider kit on ebay. I have now managed to get some reference pics of the real car and its got the same front end as the ghost rider but it does not have the wide arches.
  19. I have been asked by a friend to build a model of his street legal Corvette C3. His C3 as what i think is the street version of the Eckler Daytona bodykit on it. Hes also fitted a blower to it along with nitros. I have decided to work in 1/16th scale for various reason, One of those being the blower fitted to the car is an old ed pink blower from nitro funny car - yes its a real one on a road car ( runs worn out tefelon seals so its nice and free) I have a far amount of 1/16th scale blowers in the parts box from various dragsters/ funny cars etc. I have just won on ebay the MPC indy pace corvette as the base model and will have to scratch build the bodykit. Would anyone kow if this kit as an engine in it and if so is it on carbs? as my mates one runs twin carbs on top of the blower. Also is it a good kit to work with or are there any know problems with them? Regards Gareth
  20. I was having good look around your bus at the Autosport show earlier this year as it was across the hall from our top fuel dragster. I thought it was the rear end from a TM Dragster going by the single element wing etc but i now stand corrected, Didnt get a chance to speak to you at the show. Like the work you have done on the red victor 3 body mold, Cant wait to see this car run once andy as got it all sorted.
  21. Mikey, Sorry i made a mistake on my above info. The front half of the chassis is not made to the shape of the VW van body, Not sure where i got that from. The guy who built the van is called wayne allman and if you click on his facebook link there are a few images showing the construction of the front half of the chassis. http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.118550954586.99245.118549609586 Hope this helps
  22. Mikey, I have gone through my photos that i took at AutoSport Show 2011 and sadly the ones of the inside were no very good and would be o no use ( i was unable to take my decent camera duing to my commitments with our top fuel dragster at the show) I did take a few other pics of the van, One showing the rear end and close up of the motor. I can tell you that the inside of the van is of a tube construction to the shape of the vans body - A bit like a pro-mod chassis Hope this helps. I wont be around santa pod alot this year as i will be doing the full FIA Top Fuel Dragster tour, but if this vehicle makes an apperance at any shows/races that i may be at i will get some better phots
  23. When i first come across this vehicle i had the same idea to build it but as of yet not got round to getting a VW Van. The really car is the back half of a Top Methanol Dragster. I am sure i have some interior shots of this vehicle when it was on display at a showing i was doing. Look forward to seeing this finished. Santa pod is great track and also the first track outside of america to have a 5sec pass in 1977 by Peter Crane agasint Big Daddy Don Garlitts. Possibly home to slowest race ever aswell a dumper truck with a fuel funny car in the back I have sepnt some great times there though ive recently had the pleasure to vist/race at Tierp Arena in sweden and its going to be hard to find a better track currently in Europe
  24. Thanks for posting this. I will have to have a look and get some sorted.
  25. Ive got a couple of original 1973 eddition 1/16th funny car models but the front tyres have dried out and gone hard and now broken up. Would anyone know of a company that sells replacements as i can only find dragster front tyres and rear tyres. Regards Gareth
