  1. When i built my renault magnum i had the same porblem, The white paint was pulling the red pigment through from teh plastic and turning it pink. i was told to use a product called barcoat (SP), Its paint sealer we have here in the UK but its very think and would have easily lost the contours of the cab. After i re-primed teh shell i applied a couple of coats of clear laquer onto the primer to act as a sealer. Once dry i simple used a scotch pad to key the lacquer and painted the white top straight over that. Never had a problem after that.
  2. Thanks for teh comments guys. As said before its always been one of my favourite trucks that my uncle owns, I did attempt to build it around 12 years ago, Back then i was still in high school and my modeling skills were some what to be desired. There is still loads do such as licence plates, "hanson" decals and spot lights etc. Since those photos were taken i have made a start weathering the truck, fitted the 5th wheel. I have also painted the supports for the exhaust stacks and built and painted the exhaust system to link the stacks to the engine. After christmas i will be ordering the KFS crane and brick grab kits for the brick trailer.
  3. These are just a few photos of another project im work on along with my AMT "Movin On" truck. My uncle owns his on haulage company and one of my favourite truck of his is his scania 144l 460. I thought it was time i made a scale model of it. The base kit is an Italeri 4 series kit called the "heavy truck". It has been converted to a 6x2 twin steer using a conversion kit from KFS. I then swaped the kit closed steps with an open step kit from KFS. The front kit wheels have been replaced with a set of super singles from KFS. I have converted the truck to RHd using a dash from KFS along. Other items from the KFS range include a scania stack kit, Jost sliding 5th wheel kit and susie coil kit. The front grille as had all the indents drilled out to look a little more realistic. The frame for stacks was scratch built. The cab has been painted in mineral blue to match the livery of Hanson conblock products. There is still alot more to do aswell as building a brick trailer to go with it.
  4. Thanks for the comments guys. A lot of work went into that build aswell aslot of money. The only problem with it now is that it was on display in the glass case in the sun, not thinking about the heat the sun warped the roof.
  5. Thought i would post a few photos of one my truck models. I built this model as promo item for drag racing team i am part of. The tractor unit is a Italeri Renault Magnum. Its been converted to RHD with a dashboard from Auslowe. I have also fitted chrome wheel trims from the italeri accessory kit and suise coils from KFS. The trailer started life as the citroen rally team trailer kit from italeri, its has been extensivly cut, choped and rebuilt. The axles have been moved closer to the rear end, Doors have ben cut in the side so you can see the workshop area, all of which was scratch built. The rear end was completly rebuilt. The front end was rebuilt and office/lounge area was built. The decals for trailer and truck were produced by local guy here in the UK. The model as on show at UK drag racing meets and the base as been signed by Andy Carter, Tom Bogner ( Lucas Oil USA) Les Downey ( Lucas Oil UK) and Pelle Lindlow former european top fuel driver, He built the real trailer some years ago. The real truck A close up of how clear the decals are.
  6. Ha the Mr Revell FE dragster. This is one of more rarer kits in 1/16th by revell. I think what makes it rare is i am sure its the only british one that revell ever made. Would be a nice kit if you build.
  7. Here are a few more photos as ive been busy with the chassis construction. One with the 1/43 scale corgi model
  8. Just found a few photos from when i started the body The body from the kit straight out of the box. This is what the real car looked like, These are not my photos so credit to owner and are only being used for reference.
  9. Sorry forgot to mention that part, The power bulge was made from plastic sheet and sanded to required shape. At the time i didnt have the corgi model so i had to roughly work out the length from photos. Its also helped to strengthen the body over the joins. The single chute and rear bumper were fitted but then removed to make it a bit easier when painting the body. This car was built way before my time but i was hooked from the moment i found the photos of it. Most of the capri funny car bodies in the UK and europe at the time were built by FGR motorsport as they are now from the same mould the gloworm came from. Thanks for the comments
  10. I have had to shelve my Lucas Oil TFD project for a while for one and other reason so i thought it a good idea to blow dust off some other projects ive been working on. Sometime ago i stumbled across a few pictures of ford capri funny car called the "Gloworm" this was built by roy phelps here in the uk and was considered Santa Pods and in fact the uk's first proper funny car. Other than Corgi producing a diecast model i dont know of anyone else who as built one. So with this in mind i set about building a 1/24th scale model. The MK1 capri donor kit is one by doyusha. This was cut at the bulkhead and stretched 20mm along with a few other small body mods. The chassis is being scratch built using the corgi model as rough guide and scaled up. The rear axle is from a revell chevy panel van kit and s been narrowed by 10mm. The real car had a ford 427ci blown V8. Luckily i had a ford 427 revell engine kit in the spares box. During my research on this car through various racing contacts and websites the original builder of the car roy phelps got in touch with me and as taken a keen intrest in the project. here are a few WIP shots I will post a few more pics when more work as been done
  11. I have considered building this truck so many times in the past 10 years and never got any further than the drawing board. One of my favourite TV trucks. The only problem i cant get round is i cant find a 1.24/25th Westland Gazelle to use for the cab. I have considered building it in 1/72nd as i have an old airfix kit. I still intend building this but i think i will have to carve a master from bolser wood and attempt to cast it in resin.
  12. Nice model your building there. These photos may be of help to you. We have a chevy truck in Pro Mod here in europe Known as Fast Freddy Fagerstrom (SP) Will keep an eye on this build.
  13. TBH i have not done alot on this one recently because the bodyshell is on its way to a guy who produces water slide decals/artwork so he can produce all the sponsor decals for me. Ive sent the body to him so he can use it for a guide as how big the decals need to be. I have now managed to match the blue paint which is ford winning blue or mazda 37L. In between this one i have been finishing off the first TFD that AC drove when he started his career in top fuel. I will post a few pics up as soon as ive finished the rear wing.
  14. Unfortunatly i couldnt make it to Alastaro but i was catching up with the Kings progress via the web. Risto is our number 1 threat in the championship this year but im glad he walked away from his nasty crash. just goes to show how well built and how much safety tech goes into these machines. Being part of Carters team i get to speak to all the european top fuel drivers when im at the track and most of them are a realy nice people. I have a cracking shot of the Stig from last years finals when he lost a wheel.
  15. Thanks for the commenst. Ive always liked to make models of things that are not common or readily avaliable. I have another TFD that built that was based on car that ran in the mid 90s here in the uk. Its not 100% complete but when it is i will post some pics up.
  16. Recently i built a 1/24th scale model truck and trailer, this was a copy of that used by the Top Fuel team i am part of. To acompany the rig ive decided to set about making a copy of our Top Fuel Dragster. The base kit is a "Doug Herbert" Snap on tools revell kit as i have 6 of these going spare As the revell kit is dated i made a start with the front of the chassis. A peice of 2x2mm plastruct was cut to length to create a support for the front wing. I then scratch built a front wing to look like the ones you find a present fuelers. The front of the body was then cut at an angle and widened slightly. A new front nose cone was constructed with plasticard and filed to shape. I then filled in the air vents in the side of the body and made some new vents from plasticard. The roll cage as been cut down by 5mm all the way round as the cage is low on our car as our driver is only short. A new rear wing will be made to match that on our race car. I also made a wheelie bar from plastic rod, though i think it may be a little to thick. I have also made a new fuel line along with a scratch built twin pump. Not shown in the pics is a carbon fibre style safety cell that the drivers sits in. This was made from thin sheet. As for the engine, The valve covers have had all the raised detail removed. The oil filter as been moved from the chassis to the block. Fuel lines were made from anodised alloy wire. I have fitted a modern carbon fibre bug catcher from "The parts box". I made an explosion blanket for the blower from a peice of black ribbon. I have made a scratch built barrel valve which will be plumed with AN fittings and braided hose from "Detail Master" I manged to source 2 set of TF engine detail sets that were made by Model garage scene which i think are not longer going? The blower will be made as a sit back version. I will also be super detailing the block with header sensors and computer wires etc. front wheels are from "realiable resin". I will be using a alot of the graphics from the Slixx "Morgan Lucas" lucas oil set and a i have guy who produces water slide decals to make the rest of the sponsor decals for me. There is still a lot more to do. I will take a few more pics as and when The real car
  17. Hi Wayne, I did attempt to send you a Pm on CFC forum but the forum softwere is a little different from what im used to so im not sure it sent ok.
  18. I have been reading various threads on here about Revell's Nostalgic funny cars that the body height is wrong and that people do simple mods to correct it. I have searched the best i can through the boards i not found any reference. Please could some tell me how its done as i want to correct the ride height on my Gene Snow funny car before i start the paint process. Thanks you
  19. A couple of shots with the body lifted
  20. I also have a 1.25th version of this in resin made by forbin planet. Its the version of the MM1 car from the first film. Its an older kit and and not the best for the money i paid for it ( around £60 at the time) but i do believe that the company have redone the kit and its much more improved kit. As the MM2 car then imo the Aoshima kit is the best. Theres 2 versions of it. The one i used and another one with a diffrent box- Its has a picture of the car coming down the road whe being chased by the dogs of war. It comes with a metal blower and a metal dog. It sometimes appears on ebay but goes for alot more than the normal aoshima model. I never made any scale plans when building this car i just sketched out what i wanted it to look like. The radiator is just a peice of plasti card with lines scored on it and painted matt black with weathering. The wings have been given the beaten look by warming the plastic up to distort it. When the nose cone is removed there is a peice of the chassis underneath that needs the middle cutting to look like a bumper reinforcer and then the nose cone supports need to be scratch built. The interior is not finished in mine yet, to busy with dragster atm lol I will take a few shots of the car with the body off for you. I intend to make a base for the car to sit on at some point, I am considering making a part of the fuel depot. I have around 100 1/24th truck tyres that are spare so i may cut these up to look like the depot walls.
  21. Cracking model well done I built a version of this some years ago, It was a straight from the box. my modeling skills wasnt the best back then and i recently put it in the "to re-do" pile and have since striped most of the paint.
  22. Thanks for the comments. I dont think i ran into issues when building the kit, it was a while ago tbh. The only thing i dont like about the kit is that "bathtub" style chassis. If you look at it side on, mainly from the NS there is a horrible square section under the bonnet and just does not look right. I did build one of these kits before and attempted to make the bonnet and doors open for greater detail as i had seen one on mad max models. I also tried to modify the engine bay to drop in a V8 motor but the whole thing failed and went in the scrap bin. Its now an ideal candidate for the wrecked interceptor in MM2
  23. A few years ago i bought an Aoshima Mad Max Interceptor. After sitting in the "To Do" pile i decided that the front end needed to be smashed up just like the film car was at the start of the film. After hours of screen printing DVD to try and get stills of the car and a few sketches i just about ready to start cutting the bodyshell and making various scratch built parts. Once i was happy with the bodyshell it was painted stating black. I then started to apply the weathering/worn look with various shades of browns, a little white and a few coats of a dirty wash. The whole shell was then give 2 coats of matt lacquer. I have also started to make the interior look like that of the film car as the interior in the kit in incorrect for the MM2 Interceptor.
  24. I am new to the forum, I found the forum while searching google for 1/16th dragster parts. Had a look around and i was impressed with site and decided to join. I have been building models since my early teens but over the last 10 years i have been building alot more detailed models. Recently i have been collecting 1/16th kits. My latest model is Gene Snow's " The Snowman" FC. A few pics of it next its modern counter part. Due to the age of the kit the front tyres were shot beyond use. unfortunatly drag racing model parts are not as coomon in the Uk as the USA and i have been struggleing to find replacement front tyres. However after a little searching around i found that a pair of matchbox/amt 1/25th kenworth truck tyres are just about the right size for the front rims. I know they are not exactly true but until suitable replacements are found i will live with them. One the bodyshell if ready for paint i will be using a 2k candy red over a suitable red base and a 2k HS lacquer.
