Here's a template for the various style pushbars used in the Dukes of Hazzard. If you print them out they should be to scale. The "California" style pushbar should mount to the car's frame. All you have to do is decide the style you like. Hope this helps.

Yea it's poseable either way. In reality though, they usually cleaned guillotine's blade between beheadings later on in the 19th century. This model is taken from the earlier models of guillotines, such as the ones used in the early part of the French Revolution. I built this model for instructional purposes and to go with me when my brother and I do demonstrations with a real fully-functioning guillotine. This General Lee is fantastic! You're doing a great job! You have some really amazing skills and its showing in your work. I wanted to know a little about your rims and tires. I read that you received them in a resin form. Were they already painted and did the tires come with the rims? If not, what tires did you use? Polar Light's reissue of "The Chambers of Horrors Guillotine". A great kit! Fun to build. Be prepared to add a woodgrain effect since it's molded without one. The kit is molded in a flesh tone color and comes with an optional glow-in-the-dark victim. It is truly an awesome conversation piece.

I'm building a diorama that contains a front porch with a screen. I'm trying to figure out what I can use to make a screen that is to scale. Anybody know of a company or have any ideas how I can accomplish this? Thanks!

Actually the General Lee never had black lettering. In the first few seasons the lettering was a dark blue with the font being more bold and heavier. This website http://www.generalleeenterprises.com/ confirms what the first General Lee looked like including the original lettering, flag style and colors. In the later California episodes the lettering lightened a little, the font grew skinner and further apart. The thickness of the "01" also changed to a fatter thickness as opposed to a skinner "01" like you see on Lee 1. Ok, here's an update. I've finished the roof except all the little warning stickers and decals. I attached a whip antenna and played around with the idea of poseable wheels. I'm also going to add wiring for the lightbars for a little more realism.

I was a little indecisive about the windows as well. I wasn't sure how I was even going to do them. I masked off everything and painted the windows from the inside. I know it's going to hide a lot of the interior details, but I figure when someone gets up close to it and looks between the tint and sees all the detail inside completed as well, I think it's going to make for an interesting model.

Glad you said something about the X-acto knife through the door decals...I've looked at the crazy car for hours and never noticed it. I'm blind , plain and simple.

Hey man its looking good! Its amazing how just a few colors on the rack helps out! However, the air tanks are yellow on the rack. The reference pics of Ecto 1A on gbfans.com are of Ecto 1A after it was sitting on the movie studio's back lot for years. The paint evidently faded some and makes the tanks look white. I was shocked when I looked back at my pics to see how much they really faded. Just to make sure I got a screen grab from the movie. You can leave the tanks white if you want to make a "weathered" Ecto 1A which would look cool...or you could just simply paint the tanks yellow. Either way it'll work. I just wanted you to have an extra refernce if you needed it. Keep it up! Looks great! I gotta get busy on mine now!

A small update on Ecto1A. I've now coated the car with 3 or 4 coats of clear. In the process I added a wash of flat black to the door jambs and fender skirt to help them stand out a little more. Hopefully this weekend I'll get around to painting the rear bumber and get some work done on the roof equipment.

Thanks fellas! I did have some trouble with the foil sticking and mine overlapped on the inside too. I trimmed the foil back on the inside of the car, but I didn't spray it with clear. I just sprayed the exterior of the car in clear to hold down all the foil. I'm thinking that once I install the glass, it will hold it down pretty well. I just have to figure out a good way to tint the windows. I have a few ideas I'm toying with but I'll see if they work first before I say what's good or not. Trial and error!

Bare metal foil is a whole art form in itself!!! Your foil looks good on the car, and great decal placement and the roof rack is coming along nicely. I think this model is super challenging! There is a lot of body work and painting, then you have a detailed interior with computers and equipment inside, and then there's the roof with all kinds of "ghost busting" equipment with lights and lightbars! Whew!!! Ecto 1A is not an easy model! There are tons of details if you want it to look nice. Great job! Keep Going!!!

Well I definately wasn't trying to steal your thunder by putting another Ecto on the workbench. As a matter of fact I'm pretty new to this board. I was on another site but there wasn't much action over there so I decided to post here. I hope I didn't committ a posting faux pas by posting another Ectomobile. I just saw yours and got inspired to work on mine that had been sitting in the closet for quite some time. I figured we could build at the same time and "jump through hoops" and help each other. I have no secrets or tricks when it comes to building models. The foil took me hours!!! It took me two evenings off and on to do the foil. The raised white letters were done in acrylic paint. I just took a small fine artist brush and just "wiggled" the brush over the raised letters, which took many tries, but I eventually got it. I have some touch-ups on my foil too before I spray clear to hold it down. I haven't even started on the roof which I think is where I'm really going to slow down. I plan to add small details like decals and wires for all the lights. I also plan to detail the interior with decals along with the magazines and newspapers that featured the Ghostbusters in the first movie. Just extra stuff like that can take time...so feel free to ask anything at anytime!

I've recently added some decals and bare metal foil work. I haven't started on the roof rack as of yet, due to the fact that I have some custom decals in the making. Until then I'll continue to work on the exterior and interior of the car.

I just posted some new pics, and the wheels are white with the center cap being chrome. I took many pics of the real screen used Ecto 1A years ago when it was at Universal Studios, which are now coming in handy on this build

I'm still working on how to post pics and photobucket...UGH!!! Anyway, I hope these stay up here this time. I got the fins painted and the underside painted a flat black. Currently I'm working on the foil and I have a friend of my designing some screen accurate decals. More pics to come!! (hopefully)
