  1. I found my Uncle Tony's stash of model RR homes. I cracked the seal on one that looked neat, and snapped it together. He never got mad, instead? He took me to the local drug store, and had me pick out one. I don't remember what it was. That was the beginning! Motorcycles! Cars! Trucks! Airplanes! My Dad liked sail ship's, and air planes. My Aunt bought all the paints and glue for me. My Mom was encouraging as well. and... she stopped buying me barbie dolls! (LoL!!!) She bought my sister the invisible woman. I remember my sister painting the spleen and gallbladder! according to the instructions. Ah, I wouldn't change anything if I had the chance to do it all over again.!
  2. Several in the 70's all but 1 have been sold in my Uncles estate. (Every model I put together, I gave to him) The 1 that was salvaged was a Semi- That is sitting in my fathers estate right now, along with a 1:43 VW Bug (testors) I gave that to dad. He LOVED it! some in the late 80's early 90's. I gave those away too. (I built a '68 stang for my friend, she had one.) She recently "refound" the model... and called me. "You'll never guess what I found while cleaning out the garage?" haha... I already knew, the blue stang! Mid 90's I built a ton. ALL have been stolen. I had a 1:4 visible engine too! All models were complete... and stolen. Talk about heart break? I never touched a model until 3 years ago. I have not completed any yet. This season, I will. I'm restocking on all the ones that were stolen in the past. "ReBuilds" Its ok... I will enjoy them again! There is probably 30 kits on the shelf with my name on them. I can't hardly wait for my new house, there WILL be a hobby room. (This house is too small, its full of boxed models!) And no place roomy enough to build.
  3. I model when I can. When I get a model, I think about it... I drive a lot for my work, so, I can make plans for my projects. My plan? To "attempt" to find and build every car I've ever owned. I also would like to build the family cars... and of course "the dream cars" I recently have encouraged a couple of friends to try the hobby. "i need a hobby" they claim, so, I found their favorite cars/motorcycles and bought them to give, to see if this hobby interests them. I've got both of them planning their color schemes. KISS Keep It Simple Silly Well? If they are thinking about what color paint to buy? then, the hobby is working already, they are forgetting their daily grind and not stressing about other things. I could easily spend ALL my spare time in this hobby. (oh, and slot cars too!) Trains are tempting... I encouraged another friend by accident as well. She showed up at the house this weekend with a B-24J Dragon Liberator! Well? I guess... I'm somewhat of an influence? (Its all about encouragement) We need an evening where we can all build in one room together. Share ideas, and help out with tips n tricks. 3 friends, 1 new to the hobby, 2 brought back into it! Yay! So, Yes... I love to build in the bubble after the traffic is quiet outside.
  4. Hi all, I've not had the chance to go to any shows. I for one would have been really aggravated if I overheard rude remarks. This actually reminds me of when I was about 9 or 10 years old I put together one of my Uncle's model homes from his train collection!! (big bucks he spent!!!! Limited edition EVERYTHING!) I remember it well... I'm sure he was ticked that I found his models, but, surprised that I showed interest in models too! The next day, we were at the drug store in the model/toy section... He said "Is there anything here that you would like to put together?" I'm glad to have family and friends the encouraged me to go forward. I've been putting models together on and off since then. I pass on the encouragement to others as well. My personal motto: "If I can do it, you can to." Please don't bash other modelers skills, what ever the age.
