  1. so i started putting the motor together tonight. had an extra intake layin around so i put it on just to see, and low n behold it fit under the stock hood. granted the intake is for a standard deck BBC, but was still cool to see it under there. im going to have to lengthen it front to back, add some length to the runners so i can add a second set of injectors, and make the runners bigger. so it most likely wont fit under the hood, but itll be close and wont need a lot of modifying which was the hope.
  2. they arent totally accurate (too many blades, space between compressor and exhaust housing, exhaust housing size) but for me they are good enough and im not redesigning them because they took a while to get them where they are. either way they should look sweet once all done up.
  3. here is the 91mm turbo, i made it with 4 different clock positions because i didnt know exactly where i want to put them or how i want to mount them yet.
  4. just made the turbos today, its going to have twin 91mm's and most likely will feed the 737 BBC which will be injected. So i need to design a new intake manifold and get that made next.
  5. Right now I'm thinking a 737 BBC with twin 88s. Not certain though but I have a new Ross Gibson engine that would fit the bill. Time will tell I guess.
  6. yeah the impala is why im doing this. i took it out and couldnt figure out what to do next. a lot needs to be done on it but i am at a stand still on it. So a new project has begun. This is now my 3rd cage im doing, and im learning a little more each time i make new pieces.
  7. this is my first attempt at trying to build a Outlaw 10.5/Outlaw Drag Radial type car. its to be based on a new ZR1 vette, and im not certain exactly all what i want to do as far as engine and detail etc. i was on the fence about doing this because well diving into a project like this can be a bit much. So enough chatter here are a few pics of what i started this weekend. right out of the box and the cutting got under way'
  8. Yes I made the turbo. I'm not starting a business or opening any online shop, but if people want some of the parts I can make them. Shoot me an email at doms87ss@yahoo.com.
  9. also, as in real life, the hoosiers are actually wider than the M/T ones. the radials i made are similar to the M/T design and are based of actual tire size. i make the models at 1:1 scale and sclae down to whatever size i need instead of trying to convert all dimensions down to a set 1/24 or 25th scale. i plan on making a set of hoosier style tires soon as well. mainly because nearly every 275 car out there now runs them, well the race cars at least.
  10. I have 255s, 275s, and 315s. Can't seem to find any other pics, but here are the 275s on a car I'm doing and the others are identical just one is shorter/skinnier and one is taller/wider. http://www.modelcarsmag.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=39167&hl=%2B66+%2Bimpala&fromsearch=1 Email me if interested doms87ss@yahoo.com
  11. not much of an update, but i only worked on it for a few minutes today. i made a procharger style enclosed blow off valve. need to run the hose from the top to the intake to finish that part off. im really draggin my feet at this point with it. i need to figure out what i really want to do with it now so i can finish it.
  12. did a little today, though did more fumbling around than actual work. the hood still fits which is a good thing. the cage also fits without blowing apart, but i broke the intercooler mount so i need to make a new one of those. painted the intake and charge tube, added a fuel line between the fuel rails, and made the silicone style couplers. i added the one for the pipe to the turbo, then added one where the pipe steps up in size. not sure if im gonna leave the last one though as in reality it could be a welded pipe. And i put the exhaust back on it.
  13. silicone style, hoping to make them out of heat shrink tubing without melting the tubes. that is unless someone has a better idea as how to do it, this is my first real more in depth build.
  14. so after not touching this thing in weeks, nearly a month now, i finally did what ive been needing to do. i got my intake done, well its made, i may make some more revisions. after getting the intake on today o drill the hole in the firewall, then also made the tube to go to the intercooler. they need some trimming on the backside of the firewall and some paint but for the most part its about ready (a few little things im working on i hope turn out as good as i envision them). that's all the updates i have for now, but with not much for plans this weekend i may be able to get something done.
  15. i guess just because the hot side piping is laid out kinda funky, and the dual charge pipes aren't something you generally see. it is at least routed correctly which i cant say always happens with model car builders. just have to get the exhaust setup routed and it'll be complete. what are the plans for the charge pipes?
  16. that turbo setup should really be redone. its not that hard to do it correctly and itll make it look a lot better, cause right now its just confusing.
  17. could also look into pro-tech for a distributor as well. though they aren't prewired http://protechmodelparts.com/carpartscatalog4.htm P/N - PTMC 65 scale dreams also has some with billet bases http://stores.scaledreams.com/Categories.bok
  18. for the fuel block get a piece of square tube styrene and a piece of styrene rod and cut each to length. cap off the box ends with sheet styrene and glue the rod piece to one end of it. attach those "fittings" to it and your done.
  19. they are available now, but please mail me about them. I dont know if they have a vendor exclusive thing here or not for what im doing and dont need that hassle. my email is doms87ss@yahoo.com
  20. after letting the paint dry about a week i gave it a go to try using bare metal foil. I tried using the model mater stuff years back and had little success, BMF is awesome though and worth having to add a little extra to a model. I started foiling yesterday and finished up this morning. It isnt perfect be any means because i tore some spots and had to do patch work, got a few wrinkles here n there i couldn't rub out. But overall i think it looks a lot better than the bare body i originally planned to go with. I threw the model together for the first time in over a week today to see how it looked, ill let you guys be the judge. I still need to detail the bumpers, add decals, add some clear (no clear on it as of yet), put the windows in and the body work is done. I still have a lot of work under the hood and interior to do so a few more weeks id imagine and i should be close to done.
  21. well i havent done much in the past few days. i unsuccessfully painted the car, then spent the last 2 days stripping the paint and cleaning the body back up for repainting. But i did get it cleaned up, primed, and finally some paint laid down tonight that im ok with. its a bit heavy in some spots, but im not stripping it all again. And that fact i havent painted anythign in a good 7-8 years made this feel pretty good that it looks how it does. I painted up the whole chassis in Tamiya semi gloss black out of a rattle can. does it hide a lot of the detail i tried to put into the chassis? yes it does but that is ok, because i relate it to a real car where the more you look at it the more little things you find and the cooler it gets. The look is exactly how i envisioned it looking. Next i laid down the paint on the body, 2 coats of primer (i had to sand a few spots after the first coat)then 2 coats of paint with no clear yet and this thing still shines under a light. the paint is smooth, but it is a bit heavy and needs to be watched and applied lightly with a few slow passes. I used Testors new lacquer paint, this one is called graphite dust and it looks awesome. the the glitter you see is not that noticeable in person, but the flash brought it out. It is a really really nice color, and i suspect i will be building more cars using this color. what you cant see is i painted the inner fenders, a pillars, c pillars, and roof in the same Tamiya semi gloss black.
  22. those are pretty cool, i remember coming across your site a while ago when looking for detail stuff on the web. Are there any plans to do any of the newer style WELD wheels they came out with or mickey Thompson styled wheels? Just out of curiosity, what kind of 3D printer do you have?
  23. didnt get much done, but did make a little progress. i was going to paint up the rear end and suspension components separately, but since they were all going to be done with the same paint i figured ill just install it and shoot it all at once. plus it gets me past this little road block ive been dealing with. so the rear end is in with the control arms i made, i cut down the springs, made a plate for the spring to sit on the control arm with, cut down the stock shocks from the middle to what was needed for "ride height", and made a panhard bar with a chassis mounted bushing. i then drilled out the housing ends and fitted them with styrene tube to serve as axles (they will be cut down to fit inside the rim). im still working on the front end stuff, so its not on the car yet, but that should be the next thing on the to-do list. so the car now has its rear stance set, just need to set the front up now and ill be on my way to making some rear progress....or so i hope.
