  1. That time of year comes around again rather quickly. All preparations are in place for another gathering celebrating model car building enthusiasm. Come join us here in Gimes, IA, a northwest suburb of Des Moines, IA. Glue Brothers were fortunate to have last years' event covered in the 4th issue of the new Auto Modelers magazine. We may be a small event, but continue to grow and look forward to those modelers that can put our event on their calender this year.

  2. I was gonna say the same thing, Kevin. Aug 17th is coming up fast. Looking to be another great gathing of modelers from previous shows as well as a lot of new faces. Gonna have plenty of vendors and working on a new round of handmade awards. Hall is well lit and air conditioned so worries if it turns out to be a hot Saturday. Looking forward to all that are able to attend. I will be posting registration forms on our Facebook site for those who want to get through that process quicker upon arrival.

  3. I have been repurposing old trophies as well as creating one-off awards out of plexiglass and various other materials for some time now. I go around and inquire about materials from various trophy businesses. Anything that they might want to donate to me. Usually comes down to a dive in their trash bins. I've also been lucky with my wife bringing home unwanted awards at the company she works at. After Covid, some places were throwing out some of those sheets of plexi used as barriers at customer windows or at check out stations. Never look a gift horse in the mouth.

  4. Glue Brothers put forth an ongoing effort to offer one-off, hand made or re-purposed awards for our NNL event. Here are examples of the last 2 years.

Glue Brothers also continue to offer an independent award at the Heartland Model Car Nationals in Overland Park, KS. KC Slammers are the host club that has been putting this great event on for many years. As with our NNL event, we also present one-off trophy awards for this event as well. This year's award will be well received. Glue Brothers are so grateful to the Slammers for giving us the opportunity to present the Best Drag Race Vehicle each year.

  5. Glue Brothers are looking forward to another gathering of automotive modelers here in the Des Moines, IA metro area. Our event continues to grow every year and this year should be no different. Put this event on your calendar, come to the Prairie Creek Church, 801 W 1st Street, Grimes, IA. and spend a great day with people who share that love of our hobby.

Our event happens to take place on the last weekend of the Iowa State Fair. For those who may come from out of town this may be of some interest while in the Des Moines area.

  6. Awards for our show are hand made or re-purposed from older used trophies/plaques. I've been doing this since re-establishing our show event. It can be a bit consuming putting these awards together, but I usually try to have the award reflect some aspect of the theme it is to represent. Here's a pic of all the awards that were presented last year. Our Top Five awards are given to the best 5 models based on contestant voting.

  7. Excited to announce the return of Mid Iowa Modelers Expo NNL here in the greater Des Moines, Iowa area. Glue Brothers look forward to everyone that can attend this year's event. Looks to be another great time for us modeling enthusiasts to gather, make some new friends or enjoy the day with existing friends, as well as make a purchase or two from our event vendors. More info as we get closer to the day of the show.

  8. Last update as we are a couple days out from Glue Brothers MIME 3 NNL event here in Des Moines and wanted to share our Trophy package for this year. Hand made, unique awards as well as a couple of re-commissioned awards that were donated from various sources. Big thanks to Randy Baker out of Omaha, he had one trophy left over from his Nebraska Challenged event that takes place in the spring and donated it to me after the show. Lots of materials have been donated from a variety of businesses including some trophy shops and plexiglass suppliers. Printed License plates for our TOP 5 entrants, based on entrant voting. Always nice to get some recognition from your peers.

Everyone stay safe out there and the Brothers look forward to those who are able to attend this year's event.

  9. Looks like a good lineup of vendors for this year's show. A/K Collectibles, STAR Models, Futurattraction Scale Products, Parts by Parks, and more including a club table. Glue Brothers look forward to seeing all that can attend on Saturday, August 20 here in Grimes, Iowa. It's a Northwest suburb of Des Moines, easy to access from Interstate 35/80 exiting North on Hwy 141 to Grimes. It's a great way to spend the day with fellow enthusiasts, display your models and maybe make a fine purchase or two.

  10. Had such a great time last year MIME will continue again this year. All new lighting has been installed in the hall and no kidding, it is quite bright. We have a great line up of vendors this year. As well as those who vendered last year we have added a couple more. Very happy to announce that Scott Popham - Futureattractions will be joining us this year. Star Models will also be joining our group.

Want to invite everyone able to attend to come to Des Moines in late August. It is the last weekend of the Iowa State Fair for those who may want to slip out and get some of those fried foods the Fair is famous for. Maybe one of the last model events before the next School season begins in the fall. Come and enjoy the show, share your projects with like minded enthusiasts and maybe make that purhase you've been looking for.

  11. In regards to any possible re-issue of AMC subject matter; I don't believe the can of worms with JoHan will ever be resolved. From my sources, and I could be wrong, but the rights/licensing in the hands one individual, and the molds are in another's possession. Can anyone say legal battle? From what I understand, the owner of the JoHan has the rights but not in possession of the molding. Worse yet, he is old and doesn't have the funds needed to go to court to get the molds back in his hands. Anyone out there have any clarity concerning this then please give your added info.

With the obvious success that Mobius has had with all the pickup kits they have done, I don't understand why they wouldn't venture into the AMC void of kits out there. If, and it is a big 'if' Mobius was to decide to produce a line Mavericks they would kill in generating that much needed profit margin producing them. Success achieved, Mobius could move on to produce more AMC vehicles. I have come to the conclusion that none of us should look forward to any JoHan kits ever being reproduced.
