  1. "One night I was dancin' with a lady in black, Wearin' black silk gloves and a black silk hat. She looked at me longin' with black velvet eyes, She gazed at me strange... all cunning and wise."
  2. "You can see those pictures in any magazine. But what's the use of looking when you don't know what they mean?"
  3. Liver and onions tastes great!
  4. As far as I understand, the car this model is based on was a one-of-a-kind custom bodied boattail. Since the real car was painted black and white, you would think they would have molded the body in either black or white plastic, but for some reason they molded it in dark blue... even though there are several black parts trees in the kit (chassis and engine parts, interior bucket, door panels and seat, etc.). Why they decided to mold the body in dark blue is a mystery to me. Anyway, there are mold seam lines in places where there shouldn't be any lines, so some sanding is needed...
  5. No, that's the traditional Duesenberg engine color they used no matter what color the body was.
  6. A little more progress...
  7. Apparently so...
  8. Even though this is a "big scale" kit, it's actually not very well detailed–at least the engine and chassis. A lot of the engine details are molded onto the block halves and are not separate parts... so I had to do a lot of paint detailing to make the engine look like there's more going on than there really is. Also, for some odd reason the springs are diecast, not styrene, and attach to the frame rails by way of large, completely incorrect and out of scale screws. Also there are no shocks, no brake system, etc. The good news is, once the fender unit is installed, the chassis is completely hidden (unless you flip the model upside down). Once this model is built, it won't be displayed upside down... so I don't really care too much about the chassis lack of detail. I'll concentrate on the parts of the car you can see once assembled...
  9. They are separate pieces that snap into the tires.
  10. I can't think if any way to correct that without doing some really tricky body work.
  11. Oh yeah... I like that!
  12. This week's car is a Panhard PL17, made between 1959-1965. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panhard_PL_17 Who got it right: sjordan2 chunkypeanutbutter MikeMc wisdonm Draggon Matt Bacon GeeBee (but not BeeGee!) 62rebel otherunicorn bbabase maltsr peter31a matthijsgrit W-409
  13. I was actually leaning towards silver/maroon. Close!
  14. What you describe sounds like a hundred years ago, but it actually wasn't really all that long ago at all! Within our lifetimes. How times have changed in just a few short decades.
  15. Ok, first of all, that's not a Duesenberg... Second of all... YUCK! And third... no, I really don't know the colors yet. Still trying to figure it out.
  16. I found sinkmarks on the body sides, nowhere else. Fenders were good, hood was good. Ejector pin marks on the panels that go below the seats.
  17. I remember the junkman coming through the alley once a week. And the produce guy through the alley once a week... in a horse-drawn wagon! For real! This was in the mid '60s... probably the end of the line for that sort of thing, but I remember it. Also the guy that came through the alley once in a while and sharpened your scissors and kitchen knives for you. To this day, and I don't know why... but I distinctly remember the produce guy when he would come down the alley. I remember him yelling out "Freestone peaches, four pounds, one dollar!" I remember that clearly to this day, yet I have no idea why that particular memory is so strong.
  18. This is the Entex 1/16 scale Duesenberg Boattail... a very exclusive, high-end car in its day. It cost about $15-20,000 at a time when a doctor made maybe $3,000 a year. Obviously it wasn't seen in the garage of Joe Average! The ebay seller was asking $100 OBO. I offered $80, and he accepted. This is the kit: I don't know what color scheme I want to go with, except that I do know I don't want to go with the black/white scheme on the box art. So any color scheme suggestions are welcome!
  19. You guys are hilarious! Who decides who gets blocked? By what criteria? You don't like a seller's prices, so that seller, according to you, should be blocked? Come on. This is the real world. Use your brain. If you don't like the price, look elsewhere.
  20. Exactly. Don't like the price? Don't buy it. Problem solved.
  21. I love Chinese food.
  22. So what's your point? That some sellers should be blocked? Why not just use your own common sense while on ebay?
  23. To me the weird thing is how that chrome trim strip on the side just sort of ends. Would have looked better if that strip extended all the way back to the trunk line.
  24. Yep. Back when funny didn't rely on toilet humor. These days what passes for "comedy" is pretty pathetic. And what's even worse is that the general public eats it up.
