  1. One man's "personality" is another man's "cheap styling gimmick." A car this clean and classically styled doesn't (and shouldn't) rely on gimmicks. The pure styling alone is all that's needed, anything more is detracting from the car, not adding. Just a quickie 10-minute hack job, but I rest my case:
  2. Hmmm... I keep on posting tons of lyrics and get no answers. Too hard? Here's an easy one: "Take it hip to hip, rock it through the wilderness. Around the world the trip begins with a kiss"...
  3. Hmmm... a wise guy!
  4. Ok, you wanna go corny owl jokes? Here ya go... Q: What do you call an owl with a sore throat? A: A bird that doesn't give a hoot!
  5. Even edited, it's still bad.
  6. As far as the engine goes, my buddy Tim Boyd tells me the engine is a gem. If anyone would have solid information, Tim would, seeing as how he has worked at Ford all of his adult life. I have no reason to doubt Tim, and no reservations about getting the EcoBoost Mustang. In fact, I'm looking forward to the 30+ highway MPG vs. what my '07 GT can manage (22). And the IRS vs. my GT's Model T-era solid rear axle. And the new Mustang's 6 speed vs. my GT's 5 speed.
  7. Haven't bought yet, but I will. I'm still deciding if I want to do a straight-up dealer trade-in with my '07 GT and get less for it, or go through the hassle of letting perfect strangers "test drive" my car and try to sell it privately for a few more bucks. Color will be red, with the "parchment" interior option.
  8. Ok, that's beyond corny.
  9. Do you know something I don't know? How/why would you reinforce any suspension parts? Looks like a very typical '20s-'30s era model kit chassis to me... frame rails, longitudinal leaf springs, solid front and rear axles. I don't foresee any need to reinforce anything. Yes, the tie rod is very thin (and to scale, it seems)... but even so I don't think I'd need to replace it with brass rod, if that's what you mean. If you know otherwise, let me know.
  10. I have the exact opposite problem. I have to have the seat all the way back, and even then my knees are almost touching the dash. But I have no problem reaching the clutch pedal...
  11. Yes they were. One of the all-time American classics. But imagine how much better it would have looked without that silly fake spare thing on the trunk.
  12. Got the right side plugs done. No need for a photo... they were done in the same exact way as the left side plugs, and look exactly the same. Also got the major frame parts and rear axle/driveshaft painted today, so tomorrow I can maybe get the frame built and the engine installed.
  13. Yes sir! I took plenty of color theory classes in college (they were fun, actually)... so I know a thing or three about color and color relationships. I like the yellow/black color scheme because it's so visually striking...the car looks like a giant bee! ... but if I go that route I'm not sure yet what interior color I'd go with. Maybe a deep maroon. Maybe a light tan. Maybe I'll change my mind 12 times before then and go with a completely different color scheme... I'm open to suggestions. But I've pretty much ruled out the box cover black and white. Too blah.
  14. Exactly what I was thinking. If the German M-B engineers felt that those pipes needed to be insulated, they would have spec'd them to be insulated from the start, and not relied on sloppy methods like wrapping them with tape.
  15. I don't think they would have wrapped those pipes from the factory. I'm pretty sure people did that in an effort to keep those pipes insulated in the winter... the way some people put cardboard in front of their radiators in the winter to keep the coolant warmer (theoretically)... Just a guess here, but if the typically precise German engineers at M-B felt those pipes needed to be insulated, I'm pretty sure they would have been designed that way, and not left to the buying public to "correct" an M-B engineering flaw.
  16. Spark plugs installed on right side...
  17. Those are intake preheater lines ("vergaserheizung" = "Carburetor heater"). Some photos show the pipes wrapped, some not.
  18. I'm working on it now...
  19. I say you do what you want... it's your model!
  20. Ok, now I see what's going on. Apparently there was some sort of rounded cover that hid all of those components; all that was really visible on the right side were the exhaust manifolds. Great! Less work for me then...
  21. Also, of all the engine photos I have, there are only two that I can find of the right side of the engine. Weird. I guess the intake side was a lot more interesting to everyone!
  22. Here's something weird. All of the right side engine details seen here are missing from the kit. The only details included for the right side of the engine are the exhaust manifolds.
  23. No. Just mixed some up epoxy on a piece of plastic and then applied a little blob to each terminal with a toothpick to give it that "rounded" look. The epoxy forms a perfect little sphere once you touch the tip of the toothpick to the piece and transfer that little blob into place. The trick is to make all six of the blobs the same size!
