You nailed it, sir. I just checked and they are, indeed, from PSF. I coated them with Spaz Stix Chrome. Still working on that technique, though.

Here are two additional pictures of the rear and front of the car:

Thanks for your feedback. The 435 H.P. 427 came out of the Revell/Monogram 1967 Corvette convertible kit.

Thanks for your comment. The 19" rally wheels are resin items that I picked up on an EBay auction. If I am able to locate the business name, I will post that information for you.

These are pictures of my 1959 Chevy Biscayne Custom Car. I used a Hendrix resin body and a Revell/Monogram 1959 Chevy Impala donor kit. It features a slammed chassis, a 427 435 H.P. Corvette engine / 4-speed transmission and custom 19" Rally wheels with Pegasus big 'n little "rubber band" tires. Custom features are a custom 1960 Mercury grille, custom rolled and pleated seat inserts, an Oldsmobile steering wheel, filled hood air vents, a hinged hood and Ala Kart nerf bars. It is finished in 'Sinful Creations' Let's Talk purple nail polish with polished Duplicolor clear. The pretty much stock interior is painted Lavender acrylic with coats of Krylon Matte clear. Enjoy!

These are pictures of my 1949 Ford Candy Red Three window coupe. I combined a Hendrix resin body with the AMT 1949 Ford Coupe styrene kit. I lowered it, installed deep-dish Kelsey Hayes (Chrysler) wire wheels, added matching rolled pans front and rear with "floating" 1955 Chrysler grille bars at both ends, and frenched and tunneled the headlights. The rear grille bar sports 1949 Ford taillights. I went with a Chrysler Hemi motor and transmission. The interior is basically stock except for a tonneau cover and chromed dash, steering column and steering wheel. The interior was sprayed with acrylic red paint covered with Krylon matte clear. The exterior is finished with Duplicolor primer, Spaz Stix silver metallic base and candy red paint and polished Duplicolor clear. I brought it to the Magic City Modelers Birmingham Classic model car show, where it won the highly coveted "Ho Hum" award. LOL! Enjoy!

I used Duplicolor White Sandable Primer for this build. The Spaz Stix Candy Red requires a base coat of the Spaz Stix # 00300 Silver Metallic Backer.

These are pictures of my 1962 Revell Corvette Gasser. I built it pretty much box stock, except for adding rubber radiator hoses, a distributor and ignition wires, a wire for the tachometer and modifiying the exhaust pipes. I finished it with Duplicolor primer, Spaz Stix Candy Red and Duplicolor clear. Revell has produced an above average kit and I am pleased with the outcome of this build. Enjoy!

The 1955 Nomad Custom was painted with Duplicolor Metalcast Purple, polished with pads and shined with Turtle Wax ICE detailer.

I used Duplicolor Metalcast red on the '40 Mercury, Spaz Stix Candy Red on the 1949 Revell Mercury Custom and Sinful Creations Sugar Sugar nail polish on the 1957 Chevy Retro custom. All were followed with Duplicolor clear, polishing with pads and shining with Novus #1 or Turtle Wax ICE detailer.

Nineteenth Completion of 2013 -- Revell 1949 Mercury Custom
Steve_L replied to Steve_L's topic in Model Cars
No brag intended... It's more like I am having more fun than ever with the model car hobby. However, it will be an easy thing to change for 2014. -
The Revell 1949 Mercury Custom kit was greeted with great enthusiasm when it was first released. It was really well done with extra custom parts and decals that allowed several build options. I quickly bought three of these kits but then I took a closer look. I had issues with what I saw as over extended custom headlights and an unusual chopped top that was raised in the middle above the B pillars. So I left these kits on the shelf for over six years. In the mean time, tens of thousands of these models were built by enthusiastic custom car fans. Earlier this year, I thought about building one of the kits and wondered, "What if I shortened the extended custom headlights and raised the A pillars so that the front of the chopped top matched the middle?" These are pictures of that completed build. In addition, I added a rarely seen (on a 49-50-51 Mercury) 1951 Chevy grille and front and rear 1953 Hudson bumpers. Using Hudson bumpers let me place the taillights and front turn signal lights into the bumper guards, a Barris Customs styling trick from the early 1950's. I significantly lowered the front and rear and used Pegasus Chrome Reverse wheels and tires. I turned the tires around so that the black walls were on the outside. I decided to add some sparkle with a completely chromed 312 Y Block engine and transmission from the AMT 1957 Thunderbird kit. I was really happy with my first use of Spaz Stix Candy Red paint and Duplicolor clear. I am very pleased with the outcome of this build and have some more ideas for the other two kits on my shelves. Enjoy!

Thanks for your feedback. I just looked at the spray can and it did not specifically say lacquer or enamel. However, it recommended a VHT enamel clear coat, so I'm thinking it is enamel.

My daughter Melissa is engaged to Kevin, who has a 7-year old daughter, Meagan. While we were at dinner to celebrate Kevin's birthday, Meagan overheard me discussing the 1971 Charger model car I built for her Daddy. Afterward, she sweetly asked me if I could build her a "blue car." Well, I couldn't and wouldn't turn her down, so I set out to honor her request. These are pictures of the Revell 2001 Corvette Z06 Snap Kit that I put together for her. I looked over my paint stash and decided that Tamiya Brilliant Blue would be the perfect color. I primered the body with Duplicolor Sandable White Primer. I shot the Tamiya Brilliant Blue and covered that with Testor's One Shot Clear Lacquer. I painted the interior with Krylon Semi-Flat Black. I assembled the kit, added the kit stickers and some detail painting. I created a Georgia License Plate with Meagan's name on it. The final assembly was quick and was the best experience I've had this year. I'll give the completed project to her soon and I hope she likes it.

These are pictures of my 1955 Chevy Nomad Custom project. I was inspired to do this build by the Jimmy Flintstone resin kit. I used the AMT 1955 Chevy Nomad kit as a donor. I made several changes along the way. The resin kit came with blanked rear quarter windows, but I decided to open them up and add stock trim pieces to make the body look more like a Nomad. I added a custom touch with the Lucas Flamethrower headlight pieces from the vintage AMT 1957 Chevy kit. I also added custom 1956 Packard taillight lenses sourced from Replicas and Miniatures of Maryland. The AMT 1955 Chevy Nomad has only a single exhaust, so I resin cast a second muffler so I could go with dual exhausts. I used a parts box Chevy 454 motor with a four-speed transmission for the drive train. I added the lowered front suspension from a Revell 1956 Chevy Del Ray and used the rear suspension from the donor kit. For variety, I set up the stance with a pronounced rake, just like I remember from the 1950's. I finished the interior with acrylic Lavender paint covered by a coat of Krylon Matte clear coat. I paint detailed the interior and added a vintage four speed shifter and custom steering wheel. I painted the exterior with Krylon X-Metals Purple paint and Duplicolor clear coat. I polished the finish with pads and finished up with Meguiars Ultimate Polish. I chose big and little tires mounted on deep set 1957 Ford rims with baby moon hubcaps. The biggest challenge was cutting and fitting the donor kit windshield, rear glass and side windows to fit the chopped roof. All in all, it was a fun project. Enjoy!

Fifteenth Completion of 2013 -- 2003 Thunderbird Custom
Steve_L replied to Steve_L's topic in Model Cars
I used Duplicolor White Sandable Primer followed by the Krylon X-Metals Base, the X-Metals Red and then Duplicolor Clear, with mucho polishing. -
These are pictures of my 2003 Thunderbird Custom. I used a Jimmy Flintstone resin body and a Revell Thunderbird Snap Kit to complete this curbside custom car. The interior is painted Testors red with a coat of matte clear. The exterior is painted with Krylon X-Metals red with polished Duplicolor clear. For the first time, I used Rustoleum Fine Textured black paint for the vinyl roof. I am pleased with the outcome. I made a vanity tag which signifies "Thunder Chicken". Big and little Pegasus Chrome T wheels and tires finished off the build. Enjoy!

These are pictures of my 1949 Mercury Three Window Coupe. I have always liked working with resin kits and when I saw this offering from Hendrix Manufacturing, I knew I wanted to build it. I decided to use the matching Hendrix continental spare tire, too. The donor is the AMT 1949 Mercury kit. I lowered the chassis to the max and fitted Pegasus chrome wheels and white wall tires. I added Ardun Heads to the engine and detailed it with a distributor, ignition wires and spark plug boots. The tri-power has copper fuel lines and I added rubber radiator hoses. I created a chrome dash and detailed it with instrument panel decals. I resin cast a button-tufted seat and made a tonneau cover. The body is basically stock except for frenched and tunneled head and tail lights. I used a custom grille and custom bumpers from the Modelhaus. The interior is painted with Duplicolor medium gray upholstery paint and the exterior is finished with Duplicolor gloss black and clear paint. I polished the paint and finished it off with Meguire's Ultimate pre-waxing polish/glaze. Enjoy!

The AMT 2012 Corvette Convertible kit is up-to-date, but is a curbside. The Revell 2006 Z06 kit is out-of-date but has full detail. These are pictures of my project to combine the two kits to create an up-to-date build with full detail. I used the 2012 AMT body, wheels, tires and the 2006 Z06 chassis, suspension, interior bucket and drive train. I substituted the 2006 Z06 headlight buckets for those of the AMT kit. I also used the Z06 hood with the convertible body. I was pleased at how well the two manufacturer's parts fit together and am happy to add a late model corvette to my model car collection. Enjoy!

Exceptional concept and execution!

Very nicely done!
