  1. Well, I got the firing order wrong. I searched the web for a while and what I found more than anything else was apparanly wrong. I really don't know as much as I should about cars once you get under the hood, but I'm learning. Hopefully soon I can get to work on my 1:1 real life project of fixing up the 5.9 R/T Dakota a lil' bit.
  2. So, this is my 3rd build following 2 Mustangs. I'm really enjoying this. I promised to post this a few days ago, but work just hasn't allowed me to do that or to make very much progress on this build thus far. BUT! I got out of work early today so I had a few spare minutes to work on the build and take some pics to post. So first off I sprayed the body once and then i decided that I wanted a "cleaner" look, so I ordered some putty and styrene and some sandpaper. I'm getting rid of the marker lights, door handles and the mold lines from the roof to the quarter panels. This is my first time working with putty so I hope it works out. Once everything is sanded I'll repaint the body, but for now this is how she sits. The front bumper and grill is pretty much done, got a couple of things I need to touch up. Thought about going from the back and actually sanding out the grill inserts and adding mesh, but for this build I'll leave it as is. Also got the engine assembled and wired up (in the correct firing order, I think)...had fun with that. I painted to block red and I tried to mix up a Hemi Orange for the oil pan. I know it's not historically correct, but that's not what I'm going for. Just doing what I think looks nice for now. Ahh, and the chassis, it's painted and I painted to molded in fuel and brake lines, too. Still have to paint the exhaust pipes, though. I'm waiting on the brake discs and calipers and wheels to get in so I can get to work on those. Thought about ordering the scale 23" wheels to put on the back but that would mean lowering the axles and tubbing it out, want to research and practice more before I get in to that. And when I build I have a few curious (sometimes) onlookers from 1 of my 4 fish tanks through out the house. If anyone has any tips for me....please....tell me. Also, I want to do a pretty detailed interior but I don't really know where to get the decals and stuff for the gauges...so if anyone can point me in the right direction I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks for looking. Hopefully I can find some time somewhere in a dark dusty hole or under the couch cushions to work on this beauty some more and finish here up and move to the next one.
  3. I meant aluminum...not red. I wanted that diamond in a jewelry box feel.
  4. Yeah, I was going to do it that color but I decided to go to just go with the red to make it pop. For some reason I just like red engines. Maybe its just a phase.
  5. Thanks guys, i really appreciate all of your comments on this. It makes me feel a lot better about it. I can't wait until I finish my third project. It's a 71 Hemi Cuda, I'm going to try and do it more of a Pro-touring style and do a little bit of custom work it inside and out. Hope it turns out while and is finished in the next couple of weeks. I'll be posting some progress of it in the "on the workbench" forum either today or tomorrow.
  6. Thanks guys. I used telephone wire for this build but I've got some scale wire now. I've got some really good ideas for some future models but one will be a bit challenging. I'm looking forward to learning more and improving my skills.
  7. It's all done in under glass now.
  8. Thanks, I really enjoy doing it. Just wish I was as skilled as some of the people on here. I think for my 4th build I'm gonna try AMT's 1978 Dodge Warlock but not do the Lil' Red Express...satin black with a Viper engine in it, kind of like a sleeper....but I'm afraid doing such a task is far beyond my knowledge and skill level.
  9. My second build that I had a little more patience with than my first build that turned into a glue bomb with finger prints and a horrible paintjob. I made my first attempt at wiring the engine in this thing, too. It's my own touch of custom, every thing is out of the box except the engine wiring. Let me know what you guys think and any ideas you have to help me get better at this. Top view. Started with a flat black base coat then 2 thin coats of graphite dust and 3 thin coats of clear wet look. For it only being my 2nd paint job ever I'm pretty pleased with it even though there are mistakes. I didn't add the mirrors, I panted them but just didn't like the way the looked on the car. I wish I knew how to do the red, white, and blue on the mustang logo on the grille....it was just too small. I also left off the license plates and reverse lights because I didn't like them. Although I think I'll add the rear license plate. I did the best I could at detailing the interior, pretty much just painted the insets on the dash silver and part of the seat patterns silver with the red handle on the shifter. My first shot at wiring a motor....I know it's horrible, but I've gotta start somewhere. For my 2nd ever build, I'm pleased. Can't wait to start my 3rd model: 71 Hemi Cuda Thanks for looking, please comment with any tips or let me know what you think, help, advice, anything.
  10. This is my 1970 Boss 429 Mustang, it's only my 2nd build ever. My first build turned out more of a glue bomb. My wife bought me the Hertz Mustang GT350 because she knew I liked Mustangs and thought I might want to try to build a model one...like I said it turned out to be a glue bomb that I painted and built in just one day and I was unhappy with it and thought I could do better. So I did some researching and I found this website and the Under Glass forum and I was shocked at what I saw in the amount of detail you guys can put into these models. This is my second attempt that took my 8 days to build while working a factory job 12 hours a day, too. I discoverd it would be easier to paint the pieces while they're still in the plastic molds and touching them up after breaking them out. (someone tell me if there is a better way.) I also discoverd wired engines, which I've never thought of before on a model car. I attempt to wire the engine on this build using telephone wire. I know it's a little big but I just couldn't wait for the wire that I ordered to get in. I only had one day off and I wanted to get this thing together after working on it through the week. Painted the body with a base coat of flat black, let it dry for a couple days and taped it off and painted the rest Graphit Dust I really didn't look at any reference for the parts or even use the instructions, I just painted everything in a way that I thought looked cool. I tried my best to detail the interior, I don't have a steady enough hand to do gauges yet. My first shot at wiring an engine, I hope to get better at it. I'll post the finished project soon in the Under Glass forum.
  11. OK. So does anyone have any tips or a guide for wiring the engine...I've got a reference for the firing order. I'm just not sure how to actually do it and have it turn out good. Thanks alot guys.
  12. So I'm new at this...currently working on my second model ever. I've been through the under glass forum and the engine detail is amazing. I was wondering if anyone can share with me on how to do the wiring and where to buy the materials also. The model I'm working on is a Rebellion 70 Boss 429. I would also like different wheels for it. Please help.
