#4 - I call this one Old Tech. This model was inspired by the Doan Spencer Roadster it differs in many ways but incorporates examples of some of the best components available in the early 1950’s. The roof, windshield, Halibrand wheels, Buick brakes and SCOT blower are from Replicas & Miniatures. The Revell 1950 Ford Pickup supplied the Ardun heads. The front beam axle and quick change rearend came from the AMT ’41 Ford Woody. The interior features an AMT ’40 Ford dash and steering wheel.
I have the Franklin Mint Doane Spencer duece so this build hits the spot !

Hello, a few years ago I sent Tom Coolidge a partially finished 1958 Pontiac sedan as a gift, one of his resin kits. Wondering if it ever turned up anywhere, and also wondering what became of Tom. He was ( is? ) a credit to the hobby. Thank you. Jon

sweet build. I struggled with an AMT '63, I should have cut to the chase and used this kit and did the conversion. Thanks for posting !

This started as the AMT Cutlass Supreme 442 W-30 for 1966. I like the bare bones muscle car theme so I converted the Supreme to the entry line F-85 by de-chroming the body and changing the interior. Several cars on the Mecum site were excellent references. The tires are Modelhaus whitewalls changed to redlines. The 'poverty caps' are actually from the Revell '62 Impala with Olds emblems added, they are a very close copy. The trunk of the W-30 has some interesting features that I had to add. The trunk was opened, some structure added, and a prototypical battery installation was added. The W-30 ram air option required a trunk mount battery which needed to be vented. A jack base and some labels are there too. The dash has knobs and bezels added, as well as UV cure lenses. The UV cure stuff works well on horn buttons and medallions too. Brake lines, e-brake lines, and a speedo cable in there also as well as clutch and tranny linkage. Model Car Garage photo etch items include the grill and body emblems. The trunk and hood have simulated latches. Many Items, including the wipers and seat belts, were scratch built. Paint is Tamiya Light Metallic Blue over Pure White rattle can spray. Oh, and did I mention creating the post sedan from a hardtop? Another one I wish I had in the garage !

Did not know of this kit. Love the body style and envy the fact that you own the 1:1 ! Nice looking build, looking forward to doing one.

As someone who also battles the challenges of replica building. I can attest to to the challenges of replicating. Your amazing fit and finish, scratch building, proper scale, and attention to detail are not lost on me !

As so many have already noted this is one beautifully detailed model. Well done!
What did you use for what appears to be the parking brake cable and cable housing?
Wire Guitar string, sorry I don't what size, I got them from a friend and he told me you can get them at a music supply for cheap. You can peel the wrap wire off and insert the core wire into a drilled hole, really easy to use. Armored brake lines, speedo cable, e-brakes

You love your hobby, it shows.

When I was 17 I owned a 1962 Impala 327. It was just 10 years old and didn’t look as nice as this.
Beautiful job. The lettering on the radiator hose, something I could never do. Care to share the method?Thank you, but I must admit the radiator hose lettering is actually a decal in the kit !

As a kid in the 60's these kits were the holy grail, miles ahead of AMT. Wish I would have bouhgt and saved them all ! Now they are unobtainium. A great concept that's keeping modeling history alive.

I attended the 1963 Chicago Auto Show in the original McCormick Place and as a 10 year old one of the neatest displays was a display operating the AMT slot cars.

I was 6 in '59 and would have ate worms to have a tin type like this !

If you have a smartphone, get Google Translate, download the Japanese language pack, and you can point your camera at the instructions and watch them transform into English in front of your eyes. It’ll struggle with the big blocks of text, but for colour call-outs or “make sure you do this in this order” notes on the drawings, it’s invaluable.
Or grab these later multilingual instructions from Scalemates:

Wow Matt that's exactly what I was hoping to find, THANKS !!!!

So I was given a 1986 vintage Tamiya Honda F1 kit 1/12 scale. I'm a life long modeller and the 12 page instruction manual is comprehensive, BUT, it's printed in Japanese. I'd like to follow the painting instructions and any special notes, so I'm wondering if anyone has advice on interpreting or finding interpreted instructions. Thanks !

You have my respect, details like the spare tire sticker and rad hose labeling are top notch.
I must admit the rad part numbers are a kit decal, Revell kits are very good.

Another car that would be in my 1:1 collection if daddy was a rich man. Started with the Revell kit, opened doors and trunk, flocked carpet, detailed dash, door cards detailed, O.E.M. style tach, simulated window frames. Frame and floor pan were separated for ease of detailing and painting. Added some wires to engine area, clutch and tranny linkage, brake lines, wire coil springs. Added the MCG photo etch set except for the grill, I opened up the kit grill. Paint is actually Rustoleum 2X that laid down pretty well just requiring some sanding and polish. It's a close match to the O.E.M. Roman Red.
