  1. Another Covette off the assembly line. This is Monogram's 95 Corvette Indy Pace car version. Color on this was supposed to be a red/purple metallic and white livery. My choice for this was Colors by Boyd Kandy Scarlet over and antique gold base. Tamiya TS26 white for the bottom. Kit was pretty complicated and there were problems especially with the decals. But perserverance, careful planning and careful use of swear words overcame these. More details in picture captions. Chassis was very well detailed and the assembly was complex. Making the steering work required more engineering than usual. Front roll bar had to be re-located due to the steering so is more than likely incorrect. But its there. Engine compartment is completly fill with components. Monogram did a nice jopb on this so it was worthy of a pic. Car on its wheels. Body fit was excellent and the stance correct. Hood snapped down nice and tight...something that doesn't usually happen. Rear veiw had some nice detail. I re-worked the tailpipes. Other side and the decal problem is obvious. Some of the worst decals I have ever had to work with. I used a product call Looks Like Glass and gave them several coats to get them to release off the paper. The dcript on the side is yellowed, probably due to the age of the kit. Most, once applied stayed down and looked OK. Don't know if a replacement set was available for this obscure kit. Thanks for looking and comments welcome. A really horrible pictrure and hard to get right but a very cool feature on the model. This is the pre-painted strobe light bar. Its on the inside of the roll hoop behind some glass which makes it hard to photo. But worth mentioning.
  2. This is the second of my 13 1/24 Corvette builds. Monograms 67 427 Corvette convertible. Coklor on thisone is a Pearlescent ink called Liqui Acrylic sky blue. Clearcoated with a latex clear around 2012. Interior is a custom mix of Tamiya LP13 IJN gray and LP81 Mixing blue. Nice kit with some good detail. The usual problems with an early kit but it all turned out good in the end. More details in the picture captions. Thanks for looking. Real good interior detail and I like the way it turned out. Engraving on the dash was good enough to paint. Used a hi shine silver then Tamiya black wash to highlight the details. Engine also had some good detail and i added some ignition wires. That big tri power 427 looks like it belongs in there. The wheels steer through the stock tie rod. Along the way I was able to lower the front slightly and that was just the trick to give this a nice stance. Side pipes attached easily after some careful planning. Rear end also had some great detail . Emblems were nice and sharp and lent themselves to my bare metal foil trick. Kit came with this soft top. Personally I like it with the top down. Tire decal on the front will have to be fixed..no biggie. This was the last year for the body style Corvette. It was best known for its 427/435hp engine option. That engine was a beast in this car. Got a ride in one and can attest to that. Thanks for looking and comments welcome.
  3. This was an interesting project to be sure. Build two versions of the same car in different scales. 'turned out to be an interesting comparison how two companies approached the same subject. Monogram made the 1/24 kit and MPC made the 1/16 version. Both cars were painted at the same time and 2K clear were used on both. Colours were Tamiya TS40 metallic black and Tamiya TS76 Mica silver. the silver was also used for the interior but was sprayed with Tamiya flat. Then it all got a light was of black to highlight the seams and knock back the silver a little to look more like the vinyl of the car. Both kits had challenges all their own. See the captions below the pictures for more details. Thanks for looking All finished and sitting on their wheels. Most noticeable differences are the badging and the T-tops. Monograms were clear and sprayed with smoke. MPC were solid and painted body colour. Much fitting had to be done to get the MPC t-tops to fit. Rear view of both. The red stripe is vinyl tape cut down. Bodies had to be carefully sprayed to get the graphics right. Kits had decals for this but they were never going to work. Vinyl tape was also used for the very classy Astro Wheels....which are one of my favorites for this year of car. Side by side caomparison. Suspension on the Monogram had to be lowered quite a bit. I made the front wheels poseable as well. The MPC had working steering and spring loaded front suspension. No alterations to ride height was necessary. Overall the Monogram was much better detailed. You would have thought the larger scale would be but this was not the case. Interior of the MPC 1/16. Not too bad but could have had some better detail. Same for the engine on the MPC. At least it all fit. Interior on the Monogram was much better as they provided decals for the dash. Both cars have a grey flock for carpet. Engine on the Monogram was also much better detailed. Decals were a nice touch.
  4. This will be OOB. I decided to start it while waiting on paint for the Daytona Charger. I am thinking maybe of painting it that unique burnt orange color if I can find a good match. I did one a few years ago in basic black.---John
