Ford GT40 Spyder GT111 - The strange tale. In 1965 GT111 was an F.A.V entry in the Targa Florio in Scilly. The drivers were Bob Bondurant and Sir John Whitmore. The competition was mostly from Ferrari for the overall win. During the race a wheel knock off nut came off. Fortunately, a spectator was gracious enough to find it and give it back. But then GT111 hit a road marker and damaged the car beyond repair and had to retire. The car was returned to F.A.V . and stripped of useable parts and left to rust outdoors. Finally, a decision was made to cut the chassis in half and ship it off to the scrap dealer. Mysteriously, the two halves of the chassis never made it to the scrap pile and was hidden in storage for decades. Eventually the remains were found and verified by Ronnie Spain and sent to Gelscoe for restoration plus the construction of a clone. The kit for this model is a 1/24 scale Mini Exotics resin body and a Tamiya//Revell GT40 chassis and interior. The paint is Tamiya TS60 Pearl Green. Life got in the way and it took several years to finish the build. What is next? The Evolution of the Ford GT 40 in Scale.
