Scale I Build

  1. A while back there was a post on this car and the Profil 24 kit was mentioned. As a dedicated Ford GT collector this was a "gotta have" . The kit has been long discontinued. But luckily, one dropped into my clutches and I just couldn't wait to finish it. Color on this is Tamiya LP50 Bright red. I had originally painted it Humbrol #19 red to match a 1/32 model I had of this car. But it turned out too dark and after waiting a month for the Humbrol to cure I sanded it down and carefully sprayed it with the Tamiya. Carefully, because the Tamiya would wrinkle the Humbrol if sprayed in too heavy a coat. So several light coats brought it up on color. Below is the model with more details in the picture captions. Heres how it all starts. Resin has to be washed carefully to clean mold release, then lots of trimming ,sanding and priming. And here is the finished product about a month later. Body was real sharp and required the usual prep but not so much sanding. Rear veiw and more detail. The stop and direction lights were included in the kit and required only attaching to the body. Decals in the kit were scary at first as they were the only copy. But they turned out to be some of the best decals I have applied. Responded to solvent well and laid down nice and smooth. They didn't miss too much either. I really like this shot of the car. I t shows off the real beauty of the design. At the end of 1967 the FIA reduced the engine capacity on all prototypes to 5 litres. This effectively eliminated the big block Fords. Ford asked Alan Mann to design and build a car around the successful Ford DFV engine used in F-1. The car was sleek and fast but a series of unfortunate events prevented it from winning. Comments welcome. This is my current Ford P68 collection. in the back is the 1/24 from this post. Front right is an Airfix 1/32 that I posted some time ago. The 1/64 is a resin cast I aquired off Ebay that was meant for HO slot racing. I used a slot type chassis and hand painted it. It will take a racing chassis but I think it is too beautiful to race.
