The rear deck can be popped open to show off the engine bay, but the intercooler sits high up on the block, almost against it. Rather than risk cutting into the "rear hood" to open/close the bay, I left it like it was and will probably never pop it open again. So, here's a parting shot of the engine in the back before the body went on it...

Now, the Tamiya Flat Black was "too clean" for the right look of the paint so I scratched my head trying to figure out how to make it more hap-hazard. Then, while looking over some parts I hand painted earler on, I saw that the bottle Flat Black was duller and put out a rougher look than the spraycan. So I grabbed a good-sized brush, dipped it in the bottle, and tested out my theory on the hood at first.

MUCH MORE REALISTIC LOOKING.

What does everyone think?

One last note: The only thing I'm missing in this is the rear air dam scoop for the engine bay. If anyone has an F-1 kit in 1:32 scale they are looking to be rid of then let me know. I imagine the smaller-sized kit would have an air scoop that would look about right for the back of the car. If you look closely at the first pic in this thread you can see it poking out behind the rear quarter window on the 1:1 car.

ahhh cool work man. Nicely representing the real thing. It's not often you see the chassis looking cleaner than the body!

Ha ha! Yeah, I could probably weather that up as well since I did so much to the body. It definitely looks a little awkward like that.

Thanks! :D

SIDE NOTE: I could've weathered the interior as well. It's pretty clean for an autocrosser. ;)
