This is my third build after a long break. It's a 66 Impala SS with a 396 and 4 speed trans. When I got home on leave from Viet Nam, I told my friends my friends I was looking for a car. They started laughing and said my buddy Jack was forced to sell the car he had. He had gone to court the night before on a bunch of charges because of what he'd done with the car The police officer that chased him with a Ford 406 car stated that he first clocked Jack doing 65 in a 45 zone. He turned his lights on and then then testified that he clocked Jack at 100, 120, and 130 MPH, at which point he could no longer keep up with the car. He had a pretty good idea of who owned the car, went to Jacks house, told Jack's father what had happened, and asked to park his car in their garage, which was granted.

Meanwhile Jack drove around for a bit to be sure he lost the cop, He went back to his house, opened the garage to hide the car for a few days, and found the cop waiting for him. He got a laundry list of charges against him. When Jack went in front of the town judge, the judge asked what kind of car it was to run away from the police car, what trans it had in it. Jack managed to answer these questions without any problem, but when the judge asked what kind of tires were on it, and Jack being a bit of a wise guy (and maybe a bit puzzled by the question) replied "Rubber tires." Half of the kids in town were in court for this hearing, and burst out laughing. The judge started banging his gavel and yell to Jack that he lost his license until the judge wanted to give it back to him which would be when Hell froze over.

Jack had to sell the car, and when I heard the story, I knew I had to have that car. I had the car for over two years, until it was stolen from the base when I was deployed and totaled. I was sick, and most likely would still have that car yet today.

It's hard to make out, but next to the 66 is my fathers 62 Bel Air wagon with a 327 4 barrel, auto trans sleeper car.

I posted some pictures of a 61 Impala with a story about it a few days ago, and the 66 was in a case above the 61. When I pick the cases up and went to separate them the 66 slipped out of my hands and fell on the floor. It didn't get damaged to bad. but it did lose a few parts off the outside. I need to touch the paint around the grill/ bumper area and do a little work on the grill part, but I wanted to post the pictures and story first.

Thanks for looking.
