I don't know if this has already been done but I am gonna try to paint a whole model with Color Place spray paint (Wal-Mart Brand) I will post pics of it later on.

Clay,

You might try spraying the under-side of the hood or some other inconspicuous place first. Most spray paints are not formulated for plastic, and can really make a mess of the plastic surface if they're too "hot". Some of them will actually mottle the surface of the plastic...and that's not something that can be fixed by stripping the paint.

You need to find a source for the Testors lacquer spray paints. They are amazingly easy to use and the results are great. Let me know if you don't have a local source and I'll look into sending you some. I'm not sure, but I think that that postal service forbids the shipment of spray cans through the mail.

As soon as I remember where I put the bag I will read what it says it can be used on, should have done that at Wally World but oh well.

YES!! The advice Raul gives is very sound!

ALWAYS test out paint before you try it on an entire model! :o

Especially with today's newer softer plastic, that is a MUST. I can tell you that if you're building anything by Revell molded from 2004 to present, I'd especially be careful of the soft plastic they're using now.

Under the hood, or maybe even just the sprue itself can give you an idea of how the paint will react.

Yep, UPS is the only way you can send any kind of paint!!! The post office will kick your hiney out the door....

Thanks, John! You saved me at least one trip to the post office. :o

I found the bag, and the cans say nothing about plastic, but I did spray it on an empty parts tree to see what it does. Might try different layers to see how many it will go

Well it is being sprayed on a parts tree from 1967, I will try it on a newer one, but it is working good on the old one.

I got it cause it is fast drying and it was $.96

Ok I just sprayed it on the inside of the 1970 Super Bee Pro Street, 2004, We will see what happens.

Clay,

I've also used some inexpensive paint from Ace Hardware. Their "Now" brand. The first coats went on fine and looked good. The stuff even polished out pretty well. The only problem I found was that you COULD NOT recoat it after about 12 hours. If you did, you ended up with a curdled mess that looked like you have sprayed a hot lacquer over enamel. Fortunately, it did not damage the plastic.

Good luck,

Clay, you may want to run the gamut of the painting process to see how the paint will hold up to polishing, clearcoating, etc. Some paints for instance don't like clearcoat on them unless it's the very mildest of stuff. (ie: Tamiya water based acrylic clear)

Nothing's more frustating to me than to have a botched paint job-------especially considering how long it takes me to get a model together with the detail I like to do.

I got the clearcoat of the stuff, I might use it on a camero body that I wont be using, just to see how it would do.

Now Rudy, keep in mind that the Penske Camaro crowd kicked everyone a**es

in the Trans Am series virtually from day one...

Not to mention Da Grump!!!

Camaro may have went away for now, but WE NEVER had a Camaro II!!!

Now back to the topic at hand, The paint is working good so far, I just need to try it when its not so humid out. I'm gonna go and try the clear on it.

Hello Clay,

Just want to say I've used that Color-place ( wal-mart brand) paint and have never really had any problems. I really like the gray primer Cheep and effective. I use the flat black also with decent results. the gloss colors I use on interiors and then hit it with some simi-gloss or flat clear and have never had no bad reactions. It is enamel paint, like the regular Testors enamel.

Good luck with your project.

Ron
