I have used the chrome all the time but have never used the pale gold, my question is does the gold get the same base coat of gloss black?

The base coat will change the shade so it depends on the look you are going for. Light gold, light base coat or silver. Dark gold, use black. You can even use green, yellow, red, whatever you like, but they all affect the final shade subtly.

I used it once for the side trim on a '58 Ford build, & yes, I did use a gloss black base, although I can't verify that it's necessary.

I cut the pale gold with a little Alclad aluminum to make it a little less "gold" :P

The base coat color does effect it. I usually put a base coat of Alclad White Aluminum down first. This is perfect for the gold on BBS style wheels.

Thank you for the responses, and by the way love the 58 ford that is a super clean build. You guys have totally steered me in the right direction and every response has helped me, thank you for your time and input I will for sure want to go the brighter route and will experiment with a lighter base coat.
