I really like the Hemi 'Cuda! That was one of my favorite body styles from the early '70s.

The saw is pretty cool, too. They come in really handy for chopping tops and such.

We've got to get you hooked up with some of the Tamiya acrylic bottle paints and some of the Testors lacquer spray cans as soon as we can. With your young son in the house, you and Mrs. Jones will like the Tamiya acrylic bottle paints a lot more. They're water-based, so they don't have the strong odor and you don't need enamel thinner to clean the brushes like the Testors stuff. You'll also like that it dries a lot faster. I'm working with a few of my "sources" to get you hooked up next week. Be on the lookout for another box of "stuff" soon...

Later,

I knew I should have bought that set of acrylic bottle paints, but it was so much more.

Worry not, Marine...what you bought will work fine for now...and reinforcements will soon be on the way.

It's all part of the learning process. I too used to use the Testors enamel paints until my friends pointed me to the other stuff.

Went in Michael's yesterday, in Traverse City, MI and yes they did have a lot of models. At full retail prices ($12-$17). Lots of good models on the shelves (mostly Revell).....and the shelves had very few vacant spaces. One needs to use that 50% off coupon to get a decent price. Same way with the local Ben Franklin store...lots of Revell models but few are being bought. Incidently both indicated they knew they were the only game in town on models other than the LHS and priced 'em accordingly. Went down to the LHS and spent my money there.

I went to Michaels on Saturday also, Only spent $5.28 w/ coupon for the AMT 72 Pontiac GTO kit. After I got home and inspected the kit, I found a nice extra item inside the box. A drag racing Christmas tree. COOL.

Using the coupon on the clearance kits is the way to go. Feels like I went back in time to around the mid to late 70s when kits were around $5.00 bucks. I have 3 Michaels stores within 8 miles of my house, so I have lots to choose from.

Clayton, you picked up some nice stuff, and you will love the saw. Looks like you are set with paint for a while. I need to stock up on some paint also.

My Wife supports me in the Hobby too. Sometime we go shopping together and she even pays for my stuff. Would'ent trade her for the world.

Now if I could only get her to build something with me. LOL.

Enjoy the kits and supplies, I'm looking forward to you posting pics of your builds.

We went back today with the A.C. Moore coupon and they took it. Didn't get me anything, just stuff for the wifes scrapbooking.

It is actually 40% off not 50%. My only gripe is that they have the same old stuff and the prices are high vs the variety of models offered.:o

Came across your thread searching for Traverse City. You guys live near Traverse? I'm moving there in a few months and hope to meet some modelers and slot car racers. I have a short slot car dragstrip with timing system that I'm bringing with me. I heard there are a few home slot car racers with large tracks up there. Rob

Hey guys, Just wanted to give you a few tips about Michael's.

Coupons: Different markets have different coupons. One week you may have a 50% off coupon and my area will have a 40% off. They do a lot of market testing via the coupons. So not everyone will have the same coupon.

Use your coupons smartly, by this I mean snagging a receipt coupon, a paper coupon and a internet coupon plus a competitor coupon. You should be able to utilize each one of those coupons in the same transaction. However, these coupons will only take the percentage off of 4 items, you cannot take all the coupons off on 1 item. Like some people think the store will pay you to take it from them. Trust me, I've dealt with this before.

Also, I see mentioned here that some of you are still able to use the coupon on clearance items, good. Right now they are going through a trickle process and eventually coupons will not be applied to clearance items. Sale items are that way already unless specified on the coupon.

Pricing: Pricing is not set by individual stores, but rather Corporate. So complaining to the staff at your store isn't going to help the situation, they have no control over it. Make an impact and write to Corporate about pricing.

With all that said, sign up to Michael's website and you'll get the ad in your email as well as different and better coupons, as I said earlier they can be used in conjunction with one another.

In the end though, be nice to the person checking you out and the coupons will be easier to use. Trust me, however you treat that associate will determine whether or not they'll let you use all the coupons as it is in their discretion to do so.

I hope this helps some of you understand a bit better about Michael's and how to save a bit more money.

Chris
