Art Anderson Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 (edited) I have, saved on a CD, the film of the first Indianapols 500. Much of the footage of that now very rare film was shot by non other than Henry Ford! Art Edited May 30, 2015 by Art Anderson
High octane Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Yes, I'm flying the flag today, as back-in-the- day Memorial Day was ALWAYS on May 30th, and it is also the birthdate of my late brother as well.
Chillyb1 Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 If this of any interest, you should read this book: "Blood and Smoke: A True Tale of Mystery, Mayhem, and the Birth of the Indy 500," by Charles Leershen. http://www.powells.com/biblio/9781439149041
Craig Irwin Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Ray Harroun is buried less than a mile from here.
Art Anderson Posted May 30, 2015 Posted May 30, 2015 Ray Harroun is buried less than a mile from here. On May 30, 1961, I got to see Harroun drive a couple of parade laps around the Speedway in the Marmon Wasp--50th Anniversary of his win at the very first Indianapolis 500.
