karbuildr Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I would guess the answer would depend on what make of airbrush you intend to use.
Brett Barrow Posted June 23, 2015 Posted June 23, 2015 I've shot alclad through just about every airbrush I have, from .2mm superfine to 1.0mm heavy and it really doesn't make a big difference. Alclad is thin and ground fine and doesn't need to go on very heavy.

The tip size is only important to control the AMOUNT of Alclad you apply... a smaller nozzle will spray less product, and consequently, you'll have more control, which is essential in that you do not want to simply lay on the chrome like you would paint. You need to inch your way forward to full coverage, and then... STOP!
Longbox55 Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 The nozzle more controls the size of the spray pattern, rather than flow of the paint being sprayed, depending on type of airbrush used. Even then, there's adjustments that can be made. On a single action, like a Passche H, the tip can be twisted on the needle to adjust the flow. On a double action, the flow control is done with the trigger, adjusting the needle forward and back. Airflow is really more important, as the paint will not move without airflow, and the amount of airflow will dictate just how much fluid will move. Very similar to how carburetor works. Working pressure also comes into play. I usually shoot Alclad with a medium tip, 10-12 psi, and very light touch on the trigger. Passes are made very light, and I stop when it looks like chrome (usually 2-3 light passes).
b-body fan Posted June 24, 2015 Author Posted June 24, 2015 (edited) Thanks guys. I shoot with a .02 dual action. Just wanted to make sure it was fine enough to flow through that. Edited June 24, 2015 by b-body fan
10thumbs Posted June 24, 2015 Posted June 24, 2015 Hi Michael, I recommend a super small size tip, like 0.2mm, or else the stuff runs out the through the tip! It's very fine and thin. Michael (also).
