CAL Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) More races, more cars, and hopefully a stronger series. On a side note, this left Paul Tracy out in the cold without a ride for the time being, when it was announced that his current car owner would not race in the 2008 season - maybe in 2009 Edited March 3, 2008 by CAL
kitbash1 Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 12 years to late if you ask me. But I guess it's better then having the two series still fighting it out for the open wheel fans attention. We in Canada are loosing two races this year, Toronto and the Quebec race. Who knows if they will be back on the calender next year. One can only hope.
58 Impala Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 (edited) Finally! I think it will only benefit American open wheel racing. I'm a big fan of ChampCar, IRL,and F1. My son and I have tickets to the IRL season opener at Homestead, right on the start finish line as well as paddock passes. We are really looking foward to the race, and being able to watch all my favorite drivers in one series. Edited March 3, 2008 by 58 Impala
FordRodnKustom Posted March 3, 2008 Posted March 3, 2008 I agree, I really enjoyed the series before it was split up. After that I lost interest. Looking forward to watching "the" American open wheel series once again. Glad they all finally came to their senses.
CAL Posted March 4, 2008 Author Posted March 4, 2008 I guess better late than never.... It sounds like IRL is absorbing CART and it will be a IRL formula car. The engine supplier and chassis supplier is offering free engine and chassis leasess to the former CART teams. The schedule maybe up in the air, and this is all tenative as the official announcement hasn't been made yet. I guess we will see if it's managed well enough to stay afloat. Maybe the could take some lessons from ALMS, DPT, and Grand Am.
rick6343 Posted March 4, 2008 Posted March 4, 2008 Agreed, better late than never. I became a die-hard CART fan until that series nearly totally disintegrated around 2003-2004. I'm just happy my daughter will grow up in a world with one American open-wheel series! I wouldn't worry about Paul Tracy. I heard that Tony George will pay his salary for whatever team picks him up.
