Darrell Gwinn Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 I had an idea a little while ago when i found the GTO grille and hood portion from the Barris raiders coach, i immediately looked over to my AMT 67 GTO kit. I dont exactly know where Im going with this since i just had the idea for the front end, but Itll probably be a mild custom. so here's what i got so far.
george 53 Posted March 5, 2008 Posted March 5, 2008 Think about it, the taillights are horizontal, now you make the grille horizontal(as opposed to the vertical position of the stock 67 headlights) you know I kinda think this might work good idea! as my good freind Ajulia would say"Keep on keepin on!" Good job!George53.

Darrell Gwinn Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 (edited) Got the hood pieced together..gotta love the scotch tape.. haha Edited March 6, 2008 by Dirk

Yes, it works quite nicely. I dont know whether or not to put hoodscoop of sorts on it or just leave the sculpture line all visable..ill try some things out
Raul_Perez Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 Keep up the good work Darrell! Custom cars are just too much fun to build!!
ajulia Posted March 6, 2008 Posted March 6, 2008 WHAT WILL HE THINK OF NEXT?? Jus foolin just wanted to say it looks like its flowin very smooth. Keep us posted!! and like george said" Keep on wit the keepin on!! peace ajulia
Darrell Gwinn Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 Keep up the good work Darrell! Custom cars are just too much fun to build!! Oh I know! This project is actually maintaining my interest, maybe ill actually get it done instead of stucking it back in the box like the rest of them! haha
Darrell Gwinn Posted March 6, 2008 Author Posted March 6, 2008 (edited) Possible wheel and tire combo. Im not sure what the tires are from, i got them from hobby lobby a few years back, they were just sitting on a shelf in a plastic wrapper by themselves by the models so i stuck them in my pocket....im a thief..lol they look like lowrider tires, but im just gonna call them low profile. As for the stance on the car, i dont think ill have it that high in the back. it has those axle locating tab things that ill probably cut out and put a real suspension under it to get it lowwwww. haha Heres what i have in mind for the interior. Seats from the jolly rodger show car, the back will have the same bucket seats, but i dont know whether to just cut out the back seat or just make a whole new interior tub since this one isnt that great anyway. I guess ill wait and see if i want to use different door panels to match the seats better first. Edited March 6, 2008 by Dirk
Darrell Gwinn Posted March 7, 2008 Author Posted March 7, 2008 I found a front roll pan that would match the pointed nose of the grille and stuck it on there.
Raul_Perez Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Hey, that's the same POS console that came in the AMT '58 Impala kit! Yes, I actually used it in mine...
george 53 Posted March 7, 2008 Posted March 7, 2008 Dirk, maybe if you cut some air cooling slits into the roll pan (to match the grille shape, only narrower) it might tend to lighten up the front end and not have a "heavy" lookto it.I'm not trying to build it for you ,just my personal opinion.hope you dont mind.George53

Thanks george!
Darrell Gwinn Posted March 11, 2008 Author Posted March 11, 2008 Well I decided not to use the chassis that came with the kit cause it just doesnt do it for me, so Im gonna use the chassis from a 66 buick riviera, with a few modifications of course. ill have to shorten the frame just a little bit and ill get rid of the bulky gas tank and spare tire indention and put in a regular tank that doesnt stick down a mile. haha
Darrell Gwinn Posted March 18, 2008 Author Posted March 18, 2008 Ok, slow progress on this project, trying to mock up an interior but im in need of door panels that will better match the seats (pictured above somewhere..) any input on this? Anyone have panels that would match?
