studioman3 Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 (edited) Hi all, I've been working on my Pete, its almost done, so I started on the scrath build of the lowboy. It is a mix of parts from an AMT lowboy and Great Dane flatbed along with a lot of frame rail pieces and such. This is my first attempt at scratch building, so be easy on me. I will include some pics of the Pete alothough there are some things I need to do to finish her up (aluminum fuel tanks, paint touch up). I have never posted pics before so hopefully this will work. outer frame rails The cab The engine Front view side view inner rails pin detail setting the height outside rails added frame almost complete Let me know what you think these pics have been removed to make room for the finished pics, please see my other thread Tim Edited March 22, 2008 by studioman3
Old Albion Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 Tim, Looks great so far. I like the Pete good colour combination. The low boy very interesting. Nice details on the goose neck attachment. Look forward to seeing it all finished.
hct728(Bob) Posted March 10, 2008 Posted March 10, 2008 The pics are great! Where did you get your plans? The pics of the Pete indicate a very detailed build, esp. with the headache rack, chains, etc. Keep up the momentum!
studioman3 Posted March 10, 2008 Author Posted March 10, 2008 Thanks for your kind words guys, I don't have any plans for the lowboy, I wanted to build one to put my Payhauler 350 on, but have not found a model that suited me, so, I just found a picture of a lowboy and am trying to stay pretty close to what I see. Its kinda funny, I wish they would tell you what each part is (in a model) that you put on, so you would know what it is instead of just giving it a number on a tree, (Not that it would keep me from putting an alternator where the carborater goes). I don't drive truck, or work on cars, so I am not that knowledgable about them, but I like building models, and I love big trucks. I have spent hours on Tim's sight just admiring them all. I don't know if I will ever have the patience to go to the great lengths of detail as some of you, like filling all the cracks and hours of sanding, my fingers are too big and numb to handle the fine stuff, but I do plan to get better. The headache rack is my first attemp in working with aluminum, I'm not as happy with it as I wanted to be, but the next one should be nicer. Once I finish the whole rig, I will take some good detailed pics and post them. Thanks

weirich1 Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 The AK/Canadian Hauler looks great in that color scheme; keep the pics of the lowboy coming too.
Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted March 11, 2008 Posted March 11, 2008 What's goin' on... NOT BAD!!! Off to a good start!

Semi Trailer Mechanic Posted March 13, 2008 Posted March 13, 2008 (edited) What's goin' on... Lowboy is a nick name for a flatbed trailer where the deck is as close to the ground for load clearance. The same way some pick up trucks are called step sides. Here's one I built a few years back. Edited March 13, 2008 by Semi Trailer Mechanic

Wow Scott, that is sweet, I thought about adding some jeep dollies, but I think this is enough of a challange for my first scratch build. I'd love to see more pics of that. I put on a coat of primer and got the deck boards cut, now comes the filling, sanding, details, ect... Heres a few more pics.
