lamont Posted September 10, 2015 Posted September 10, 2015 (edited) I am trying to find out the manufacturer of the Mercury sedan below. It is a nice, inexpensivly made 1/87 plastic model that lacks a bottom plate and interior. The Mercury came in set of four (black, white, green and blue). The Mercury ambulance behind the sedan is most likely bty the same maker, but it has a bottom plate. I made a cast metal bottom plate and fitted custom wheels on my mercury models to make them fit better in my Herpa/Wikiing/Busch/Classix/Neo/Nun collection, but I simply can't remember the manufacturer. Can anybody here jog my memory? I think it is an American brand. Edited September 10, 2015 by lamont
jerseyjunker1 Posted September 11, 2015 Posted September 11, 2015 can't help you with the manufacturer. but great job on the casting.
lamont Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 can't help you with the manufacturer. but great job on the casting.Thanks. I have actually created some 1/87 cast metal kits that I may eventually show on these forums.
lamont Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 i have no idea but they look nice. They aren't up to Herpa/Wiking/Brekina et al standards, but quite nice. The bottom plate helps and nicer wheels help a lot. If only I could remember the maker. I found this picture onlime, and these seem to be the same make. Apparently they come not only in a set ot four like mine did, but also with a train car transporter.
Dave Van Posted September 12, 2015 Posted September 12, 2015 (edited) Life-Like by Walthers Inc of Milwaukee WI. They have a number of entry level detail HO scale vehicles. The ambulance is not Walthers IIRC ...looks like EKO maybe. Edited September 12, 2015 by Dave Van
lamont Posted September 12, 2015 Author Posted September 12, 2015 Thanks, Dave! I bought the set of four sedans from a wall display at a local hobby shop some years ago. The shop, San Franciscan Hobbies went out of business in 2014.The ambulance was from the same wall and the front detail is identical to the sedans, so I figured they were by the same maker. I have some Eko models, and they all are very crudely cast and require a lot of cleanup. Unfortunately, the Walther's Web page is not loading at the moment. Will check later. Thanks again, you have been very helpful!
