So i'm sitting here with Polar Ligths 64 Pontiac GTo snap kit and AMT 65 Chevelle wagon. I got this idea of makin a 64 Pontiac wagon by taking the roof from the Chevelle kit over on the Pontiac body.

I'm looking at pictures and from what I can see there is little differece between the 64 and 65 Chevelle wagons and the roofline on a 64 Tempest looks similar aswell but is it?

Anyone here know these cars good?

Am I all on a lost track with this or is a realistic thing to do?

They're both A-Body Wagons and except for the IDing parts like Grills and Rear Ends (different tail lights) share many parts and body panels. The Chassis's are the same.

That red one there is just the thing I'm thinking of. The Polar Lights GTO and AMT Chevelle don't seem to have teh same wheelbases but I think that I could possibly transfer the roof from the chevelle over to the gto body. Will probably have to use the Chevy rear end with taillights and such.

It just feels more exlusive than the standard Chevelle wagon and a a bit more special than a GTO convertible that I got (and why on earth did they pre-paint it yellow??)

I want to do the same thing, but prefer to start with the GTO Convertible

With the Polar Lights hardtop being issued twice molded in white

why have they not offered the convertible since the original

"American Muscle" Pre-painted issue???

I believe they were offered in 4 colors each

I passed on the red as it looked like a VERY Faded color and Not a New Bright color

My plan was to not only do this with the 65 I started, and the 64, but 66 & 67's too

I Have shown the 65 Project, It will Keep the GTO emblems as I do not have Tempest or Le Mans

script to replace them!! Heck, it will have the GTO Hood, so why not leave the Badges??

One bit of info here, you can use either AMT's 65, Or Revell's 66 Malibu Wagon kit

for the Long-Roof transplant!!!

Yes, I got the "American Muscle" prepainted convertible in yellow. I usually like yellow but I don't think it does anything for the GTO. Maybe a light metallic blue or a blood red and I would have kept it like it is. I won it as a lotteryprize at the Norwegian Challenge modelshow now in september. The 65 Chevelle wagon kit I got is an older issue that is also molded in yellow so I guess they get drawn to eachother:lol:

Sounds like it!!!!!

I have the convertible in that Yellow, & White Pearl

Hardtop in Metallic Teal/turq..

I have the Coronet convertible in the Same Turq/Teal, and a sedan in a Pale yellow/cream

Why haven't they re-issued the Coronet???

As for stripping the paint, I have not tried yet..

I have read that Maybe 91% isopropol (Rubbing) alcohol will do the trick

on these pre-painted kits.

I have searched around a bit and found that there are a few on this board that has done something similar so I guess that means it is possible to do :)

Now, should I start right away or continue on one of the many projects that I have already started?
