slant6 Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 So Im looking to to a headliner in my most recent model, a 1966 VW beattle 1300. Ive seen tips on here about ding a convertible top, with things like tissues. Could this also apply to headliners? How do I do it? What Im most thinking about is the seams, and how i get it to stick to the roof without looking like its glued up or falling down. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well I just did a headliner on a '40 Ford with 3/4" masking tape. I really didn't do as good a job as I should have. This method works better if you use 2" wide masking tape (real masking tape, not that blue or green stuff) and on a later-model flat style roof. For example, on a sixtees or seventees Ford, GM, or Mopar, you may get the entire headliner and C pillars with one piece. A Beetle has a "bowl" shape like the '40 Ford. Of course, you can always add paint and flocking to applied masking tape.
gasman Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 (edited) What I do is get a very thin sheet of sheet styrene. cut it to the width and shape it like the roof on the Bug. Model Master makes a paint that simulates a viynl top. its a two part system and work great. paint the sheet like that then use glue to secure it. to the roof. In rarely ever give my builds headlines. most of the time I forget them, or don't care about doing them since you can't see them. Edited March 27, 2008 by gasman
