DRIPTROIT 71 Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 Does anyone have any info on the air ride set up that is found in the early Ertl truck kits like the 4270 kit, the 4070A kit, and the early 4070B kit? Was this made by IH? What years was it available? Does any one have any reference pictures? I am trying to choose which air ride system to put on my H-63 Mack. Thanks ahead of time....Brian
lapazleo Posted January 26, 2016 Posted January 26, 2016 (edited) It was marketed as IH but I highly suspect it to be Neway. As far as the h63 really anything would work as to the best of my knowledge there was no factory air ride option. Edited January 26, 2016 by lapazleo

I am hoping to find some 1:1 reference pictures before I install which ever system I decide to go with that is why I was wanting to know if it was available on any other trucks. The Mack that I'm building will be far from factory specs, so that really wasn't an issue. I was wondering more about the set up itself, as it seems one axle is U-bolted solid, while the other seems to mount similar to a walker beam set up. I was hoping just to U-bolt them both solid, like most air rides that I've seen. Thanks for the help! I may have to as Sean says: "use some creative licence."
lapazleo Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 No prob was looking for 1:1 pics too not much luck.
Superpeterbilt Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 I dont have any info on the air ride, but heres a cool story of an H model Mack. If your not familiar with it, its a cool truck and cool story.http://www.tenfourmagazine.com/feature/2010/5.html

I'm still kind of curious as to how that air clutch worked. You can see the cylinder that actuates the clutch in one of the pictures. I'm sure it took some getting used to.By the way: Does anyone have a complete Ertl air ride? I dug mine out of the parts box today, confident that it was complete, and it is not even close to complete. So much for my memory?!?I have the old style aftermarket spring air combo from the Peterbilt if all else fails.
Old Buckaroo Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 hmmm, I must be missing something. I checked a seat and it just has a pedestal under it with two diagonal lines to where it looks like three pieces (?) Is that what your looking for ?

I checked a seat and it just has a pedestal under it with two diagonal lines to where it looks like three pieces (?) Is that what your looking for ?I was looking for the old Ertl rear air ride suspension like comes in the early IH kits. I had one that I haven't seen in a long time, I remembered it being complete. So much for my memory. I need to choose the suspension for my Mack before I can arrange cross member placement. I have even looked into Auslowe's Neway suspension, but I think that I would rather us the old IH style if I can get a hold of one.
Old Buckaroo Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Brian - I knew I was missing something . I think I have the parts you need - I will post a picture after my morning cup of coffee...
Old Buckaroo Posted January 27, 2016 Posted January 27, 2016 Is this the one ? I got that cool looking resin head with the purchase of a Jimmy Flinstone resin cab
