j_nigrelli Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 if the radiator sits lower than the stock upper radiator hose (block inlet), how can the cooling system be plumbed? is it okay just to route the upper hose wherever it needs to go, clearing belts, et cetera, on its way? thnks, j
Harry P. Posted March 31, 2008 Posted March 31, 2008 Since the cooling system is pressurized, the radiator can be placed anywhere, theoretically (as long as it has access to airflow, either via outside air being drawn across it or by mechanical (fan) means...or both. So the answer to your question is yes.
Ron L Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 The cap needs to be at the highest point to allow burping. Look at an AC Cobra for example, you will see a header tank or an in-line hose adapter with the cap on it because the radiator is much lower than the engine.
bobss396 Posted April 1, 2008 Posted April 1, 2008 The part in question is a surge tank. They came out on mid-1960's Fords due to the lowered hood line which dropped the radiator down. Lots of Ford kits have them, or you can easily make your own from scratch. Bob
Ron L Posted April 2, 2008 Posted April 2, 2008 Er yeah, surge tank. Header tanks are for dry sumps. Tanks for the fix.
