MonoPed Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 Had decent weather today, so I took full advantage of it and got some Italian Red on my long stalled Fisher resin Ferrari 512s Coda Lunga. Had to decant some of the paint and use the airbrush to spot in all the scoops, ducts and dips, then rattled canned the whole thing with Tamiya TS-08. For some reason, my camera will not reproduce these bright reds correctly, but I'm happy with how it looks in person :-) Brian
ismaelg Posted April 10, 2008 Posted April 10, 2008 HORRAY!!! I was wondering about this project a few months ago. Glad to see it back. Looking forward to it! Thanks,
RodneyBad Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Well what I know about Ferraris you can put on a pin head.. But what I do know is, That is one Sexy looking car.. looks awesome. Great bodylines. paint does look great. Had a weee bit of sunshine here (washed car)
ajulia Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Hello there friend! This was and still is my most favorite "horse- power" racer, I will enjoy this build-up a great deal!! Keep on wit the keepin on!! peace ajulia
MojaveRacer208 Posted April 11, 2008 Posted April 11, 2008 Sweet! Fisher's kits are excellent, and this era includes my all time favorite Ferraris. But I would have to convert it to a full detail...LOL I see that the red looks very bright and orange-ish. But you say it looks better in person, and that is easy to believe. I often see heated discussions on GPMA about specific colors on race cars of 30-60 years ago. Since we lack formula info on the actual paints or even a standard against which to compare them, such as Pantone Color Specifier, trying to get truly accurate color is like chasing feathers in the wind. ScaleCentral Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 I think the worst color conversation was burple!
Crazy Ed Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Brian Great subject, and looking good so far. I'll be watching this one. Sweet! Fisher's kits are excellent, and this era includes my all time favorite Ferraris. But I would have to convert it to a full detail...LOL Richard Richard Heller, then rereleased by Testors and I believe Union made a 1/24 Full Detail of the 512S Ed Erbeck Jr.
MonoPed Posted April 12, 2008 Author Posted April 12, 2008 I have the Testors/Heller kit, which is a short tail version that Andretti/Ickx drove at Daytona. The only part of that kit that comes close to interchanging with the Fisher resin kit is the windscreen...
MrObsessive Posted April 12, 2008 Posted April 12, 2008 Beautiful paint Brian! That looks to be the right shade of Ferrari Red for that era. Seems as though the Ferrari's out of the '50's were more of a Tomato Red and not as "Orangey" as the later ones.
ScaleCentral Posted April 13, 2008 Posted April 13, 2008 There were several 512 kits. Fisher made the 512M's, 512S long tail (as Brian's is), and the 512S spyder. There of course were two different front ends. You can tell by the shape of the front inlets. There were also the 512S coupe which is what Heller made. Model Factory Hiro has released just about everything except the coupe in full detail. I'm not quire sure what Paul Fisher modeled his after, but they are very nice. It seems MFH did theirs with the Heller. Nic

So you might get to use some parts after all eh LOL Is it me or does it look like you could trace the F50 lines to this car?
ScaleCentral Posted April 14, 2008 Posted April 14, 2008 Thought that some of you might like to see some pics of various 512's out there. Ferrari's galore They also have some links to other pages with lots of pics and detail at the very bottom. Nic
MonoPed Posted April 14, 2008 Author Posted April 14, 2008 So you might get to use some parts after all eh LOL Ya know, that kit is still in the "build" pile, though I'm thinking it might be best built as a curbside. Still, it'll look cool next to the Fisher kit on the shelf
