Help! - What is this - 17 Pearson Torino

Was wondering if anyone could help me in figuring out what the red box on the transmission tunnel is for?  It connect to the back of the box and then feeds through to the fire extinguisher.

Hoped someone could explain what it was used for.

Just a thought. Possibly the signal box for auto fire suppression system. The Cat trash compactor at the landfill I work at has this red box with status lights and a warning beeper for low 9 volt battery .

It looks like you pull the lever for the fire suppression system. It seems to be positioned within reach of the driver.
