Model Cars Magazine Forum

Folks, when I found this forum, I was delighted. I had been out of model car building for 40 years and thought that this would be a place to "get with it" again. I was both right and wrong.

I have received many tips, tricks, and ideas from a bunch of you, for which I am grateful. Your support has enabled me to re start my attempt at a fine hobby.

I come here to view some great works and ask for tips and ideas to further my skills.

However, all of this BS about "low rider old guys vs. young guys", what is a "show" vs. a "contest", Is Nnl a fraud? has me completed turned off.

Lets get back to building, not bitching.

Okay, and trust me I can identify with your concern...

But...

I think a couple of other things are at work here.

Seems to me a few of the terms that helped define the hobby for the past couiple of decades have been dilluted and could stand to be reinforced and brought back to their real meaning. Depending on the experience and depth of those commenting, it makes sense to bring the terms back to their original meaning if only to avoid confusion.

Many of thre newbies are just as resistent to that as our group was in earlier times.

Then again, WE WERE RIGHT!

They're not!

So THERE!!!

heres something you may find to be a real revelation:

you dont have to read the threads you dont want to read.

otherwise youre just spectating at a train wreck or looking for something to get offended by.

Milt,

I agree that the thread about the "low rider old guys vs. young guys" got out of hand. For that, Kevin “EvilOne†apologized. But I don’t feel that the “Is it or isn’t it an NNL?†topic has gone down the same path. Sure there are a wide range of opinions, but that’s often the case with almost any topic. As long as the guys don’t start slamming each other for their opinion then it’s all good, constructive discussion meant to improve the hobby.

The little get together we’ve put together for this weekend is pretty much as pure of an NNL event as anyone could ever want. It’ll be a bunch of guys getting together to do a little “show and tell†of their latest projects and to share some hints and tips. All egos get left at the door and no one goes home with a trophy of any kind. We’ll even call this one Milt’s NNL.

I can’t wait to see you and the rest of the guys on Sunday.

Regards,

Raul, me, I actually DO NOT want a trophy, I mean to me, ok, you got a trophy, woop dee doo, some people if they win they get that mind set and if they don't win, they get bent out of shape and throw a hissy fit. I'd rather have people coming up to me saying, "you did a great job on that, I like it" or hey, how'd you do that, I've been trying to do that for months!", you know, stuff like that. :(

THAT is what our hobby is about to me as well. Sharing techniques with fellow builders. That, and swapping parts between us to create that one that's stuck in your head that just won't go anywhere until it's in front of you on the shelf.

Two more of my copper Lincolns, non-refundable. :(

I don't want them either. They few that I get are given away to the local scout troop to reuse for their Pinewood Derby race!

Nick,

Yes, I too would rather have my friends tell me what they do or don't like about a particular build than to get a trophy that no one will ever see. That's how well all work together to improve our skills. One of my friends criticized the ###### out of a custom model I built last year, telling me everything that he thought was wrong about it. I laughed and agreed with him because everything he pointed out as being wrong were features that I didn’t like either. Then we talked about how to do it better next time.

Jonathan,

Yes!! That's one of the things I like best about THIS hobby and THIS forum...the sharing of ideas, opinions, skills and parts!! If we all had the same ideas, opinions, skills and parts there wouldn't be a need or desire to even log on to a forum because we'd all know what each other was thinking and we'd all have the same skills and kits in our collections.

So thanks for continually sharing your ideas, opinions, skills and most of all, your parts...now what have you got that I need?? :(

Raul, I don't think I have any parts you'd want, but I could always use some.

But what are you doing here? Bitching about those of us who occasionally like to debate something or have some fun tweaking someone's nose. Half of the threads you take offense at are tongue in cheek humor. Lighten up, Man! :(
