philo426 Posted June 21, 2016 Posted June 21, 2016 (edited) Decided to try a paper/cardstock model and it is a lot different than a plastic model. Not easy but sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone! Edited June 25, 2016 by philo426
Crazy Ed Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Interesting choices Phillip. Not the most common medium, and an uncommon WW2 Aircraft on top of that.
philo426 Posted June 22, 2016 Author Posted June 22, 2016 Yes I had heard of these cardstock models and decided to seek one out.Different type of model for sure!
Jim B Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 Interesting subject.I tried a card stock model once. It was an unmitigated disaster!
Roadrunner Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 I hate to be a stickler here, but it's actually Hampden, not Hamden.
philo426 Posted June 25, 2016 Author Posted June 25, 2016 Got the inner wings installed.Starting to look like an aircraft!
Roadrunner Posted June 25, 2016 Posted June 25, 2016 I've seen some of these paper models end up looking quite nice. You have more patience than I, that's for sure.
philo426 Posted June 26, 2016 Author Posted June 26, 2016 Yeah I am so busy trying to figure out how to build the thing patience is the order of the day!
Crazy Ed Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) That is one big "Paper Plane" isn't it! I wonder once done if a coat of Semi Gloss or Satin Clear over the main area and Gloss over the "glass" might enhance the look of the finished kit - Although just finishing it will result i an impressive Plane! philo426 Posted June 27, 2016 Author Posted June 27, 2016 Yes I have been advised it would be wise to clear coat it to protect it from dust and humidity.I think I will do so when completed.
philo426 Posted June 27, 2016 Author Posted June 27, 2016 I got the cowlings and exhaust collector rings installed.
Harry P. Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 Kind of hard to see what's going on when the model is buried in that mess. How about shooting it on a neutral background without all that clutter?
philo426 Posted June 27, 2016 Author Posted June 27, 2016 (edited) Yeah maybe on the washer next time! i know that I made several mistakes that I will avoid on future paper builds.Chief among them is adequete support structure for the outer wing sections. The wavy pattern is the result of this oversight and the fuselage cross section neeeds more bulkheads.. Still it is a valuable learning tool even if the end result is a poor model.Perhaps the instructions being in Polish is an issue too.I do find this build to be fascinating one even if I have a comptomised model. At least I will know what not to do! philo426 Posted June 29, 2016 Author Posted June 29, 2016 Cut out and installed the support structure for the canopy.
Crazy Ed Posted June 30, 2016 Posted June 30, 2016 Man it's looking like getting that section to fit is gonna be a real bugger!
philo426 Posted June 30, 2016 Author Posted June 30, 2016 Yes the kit includes thin paper strips that will hopefully frame the canopy better.
