gluebomb Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 I have a promo of a 1956 Desoto Fireflite made by Jo-Han and the chassis is warped what can I do to fix it? The chassis is swagged onto the body so I know its old, I just do not want to jump into this half-assed and ruin it. It was part of a collection of Desotos a good friend gave me, out of 10 or so I got this is the worst one. I have searched for this on the forum but did find a good answer, thanks for any help and tips.
Ramfins59 Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 You could try putting the warped chassis in hot, not boiling, water and then try laying it on a flat surface with a weight on it until it cools to the proper shape.ORYou could try to make your own flat, promo style chassis out of thick sheet plastic cut to the same size and shape of the promo chassis. You could try to make your own axles to hold the wheels/tires out of either brass, aluminum or plastic rod or tubing, which you would use either CA glue or epoxy to attach to the chassis at the correct wheelbase spots.
BigTallDad Posted August 20, 2016 Posted August 20, 2016 This approach has worked for me: Get a straight board and clamp the body to it, making sure the clamps won't leave marks; use shims as necessary. Place this assembly in a food dehydrator for a few hours.
disabled modeler Posted August 21, 2016 Posted August 21, 2016 Cool promo...I hope you can save her. I am one of the few that love the promos too.
