Alclad 2 - Chrome - Looking for tips and advice

Hello Everyone

 

I bought several alclad 2 paints and I really love these...the metal finish is great.

I am building revell's 53 corvette and I wanted to self-chrome the parts, but I failed. I bought the black gloss primer, de-chromed one small part (I think it's a tank)...then I sprayed it with the blackgloss primer and then the chrome..

The result was bad...it just looked like a mess of metal flakes...

 

Any ideas what I did wrong? What is your experience with using chrome alclad; especially on small parts?
