Brendan Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 It's a Fujimi Ferrari 430. This was a quick fun build for me while I'm waiting for some paint to arrive. The paint is Cobra Colors WR Blue Pearl (Suburu WRX). Kit went together very well; minimal cleanup had to be done. Interior is a mixture of Tamiya Acrylics. Would highly recommend this kit. Feel free to comment.
Raul_Perez Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 Brendan, Seeing that model built makes me want to start building sports cars again!! The paint and the trim look GREAT!! Thanks for sharing!
ismaelg Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 dah, dah, ehh I'm trying to comment but I can't find the right words It looks GREAT! but.... 3 days? WOW! It takes me that long to put maybe 2 coats of color! darn it, now I want to dig mine out, which has been in primer for over 1 year Nice job... Thanks,
crispy Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 That's nice! The blue looks fantastic on there! Sometimes these quick fun little builds are what you need to get over the hump. I just have a hard time believing it only took three days! WOW. I haven't built a Fujimi F430, but I do have the 430 Scuderia on pre-order and looking at how quick you did this, I can't wait until I get it. Thanks for sharing.
Brendan Posted May 3, 2008 Author Posted May 3, 2008 Thanks for the comments. I use a local guy who mixed up a custom primer for me. It's super thin so you end up spraying on several coats but it dries the same day. It doesn't seem to etch the plastic. Usually I can sand in a couple of hours of putting it on. Cobra Colors paint just works extremely well where I am located. All the temperature and humidity is perfect for it. Putting it in a dehydrator helps too. I ended up free handing the window trims, which I thought turned out half way decent; better than my usual stuff. As for the pearl blue, I was getting sick and tired of making red Ferraris. There's really not much to this kit at all. It's mainly black and tan for the interior. The body was so easy to clean up. Also helps when you stay up late. P.S. Ismael, I'm almost out of Cobra Colors Clear. Have enough to do maybe one or two more cars. Might have to switch to MCW's Clear.
Nick F40 Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 very pretty, I love this car and I love this paint, my color! very well done for a short amount of time!
kelson Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Ferrari looks awesome! 3 day build? that's incredible !could maybe have some parts in primer .
m408 Posted May 4, 2008 Posted May 4, 2008 Very nice Brendan. After seeing some of your other work, I'm not at all surprised, but, in only three days? Wow. A couple of quick questions, if you don't mind. Why several thin primer coats? And do you sand in between coats? Could a thin primer be made by decanting and then thinning?
Brendan Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 Very nice Brendan. After seeing some of your other work, I'm not at all surprised, but, in only three days? Wow. A couple of quick questions, if you don't mind. Why several thin primer coats? And do you sand in between coats? Could a thin primer be made by decanting and then thinning? Sorry for the late reply. Been out of town. I do several thin coat so it's more adhesive to the plastic. Plus it dries quicker. Also it is less likely to damage the plastic. I'll sand if the coat is very grainy. As for the thinning, you should have no problem using thinner that is appropriate for the primer that you use. The primer I use is a build-up primer. It was custom mixed for me by a local paint shop. I hope this helps.
