Mike Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 (edited) Here's the kit - This is my first journey to decal hell and my friend is Micro Sol. I've never attempted anything this extensive with decals, but I've got to do it sometime. What I've gotten done so far is a combination of four decals. Three are combined for the bottom of the door/body portion. Edited May 18, 2008 by Mike
Ken Posted May 9, 2008 Posted May 9, 2008 So is all the color on it in the decals? If so, I wish you luck! Looks like you got a great start.

Yes, with the exception being the rear deck lid and what will be the nose cone. Other than that, all the color on the sides is decals. I'm sure I'll be using a full bottle of micro sol on this one. LOL

Mike Posted May 9, 2008 Author Posted May 9, 2008 wow...............COOL but yeah be patient. That TDI looks nice. Do you have any extra Mugen decals? Sorry, no extras. If I screw up, I'll be contacting Tamiya customer service. LOL That Audi looks SHARP. And yes, I have been patient.
Mike Posted May 11, 2008 Author Posted May 11, 2008 As I journey ever farther into decal hell, I've begun actually drinking the Micro Sol. It calms a person really. I've got most of the body decals on today. These next center hood decals are going to be a problem, but hey, I'm learning right? The front fender decals are still trying to lye down as you can see in the photos. If they're dry enough tomorrow, I'm going to try a slice and over-lay with the curvature to see if that helps. If you don't have patience, this is not a kit for you. Trust me.
Mike Posted May 13, 2008 Author Posted May 13, 2008 Round 1 is done. WOO!HOO! Now I've got to wait for everything to dry good and seel them before I commence to the overlying set of decals. There are a couple small spots for me to touch up with paint, but I expected it. The air duct lips on the hood consist of 3 decals each (inside and outside combined) aside from the #18 and "t" decals in the center. Thank you for following along.
Mike Posted May 17, 2008 Author Posted May 17, 2008 Thank you for the comments guys. I got the engine done. Just need to add the axles and brakes then it's off to the chassis. This is a great kit thus far. Everything's fit beautifully. It's also refreshing to have a nice box-stock build.
Nick F40 Posted May 18, 2008 Posted May 18, 2008 Very nice Mike, it's coming along nicely and that engine is beautiful. don't worry, you'll make it through decal hell try doing rally cars!
Mike Posted May 18, 2008 Author Posted May 18, 2008 I've got a rolling chassis! Still a bit of touch up painting to do. It's starting to look like a race car!
Mike Posted May 21, 2008 Author Posted May 21, 2008 OK. Interior's complete, and I've entered the second round of decal hell and mounted the body to the chassis. Thus far it's been a tremendous learning experience in decal work. It's nowhere near a perfect job, but on a first-time effort, I'm pleased. The kit itself has had a single issue, and that was on final assembly when the rear bumper didn't want to allow a clean body-chassis assembly. After removing the bumper, everything fit well, and I added the bumper after the fact with no issues. Thank you for following along.
Nick F40 Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Nice, coming along! I like it. I've entered the second round of decal hell and mounted the body to the chassis. body to chassis good?
kasteer Posted May 22, 2008 Posted May 22, 2008 Lookin GREAT! I didn't know those cars were so decal oriented. I'll never complain about decals again (unless I do one of those).
