426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Posted December 21, 2016 So, I'll start mine off with...... Well, I'll leave ya with this one for now......Keep all ya guessing for a bit, as this is my FIRST MOTM entry!
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 So then, I see a few has "looked" so now I'll give ya...... As you see this is purdy big....Anyone GUESS what they are? Hows 'bout I show ya! Heads "look" big enough? Also just another HEADS up............. this seen here ARE MY CASTINGS!
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Just to get everyone's "attention"...................
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 EVERYONE, remember with me, almost ANYTHING is possible! I scratchbuild like no other, and this is one fine example of that. this whole build is actually scratchbuilt, with absolutely NO plans what-so-ever! Scary part of that? Is the fact that with no plans "winging it" means it can go in ANY direction, at ANY given time! So far, the engines, are my castings, this would include, the engine block, transmission, the heads and the valve covers, the blowers are left overs I had, and the blower "saddles" that sits between the heads, and the bottom of the blower is a machines piece of plastic that I made glued together multiple layers of plexiglass to get the "look" as I had NO blower saddles to fit these engines, or even the blowers to even think of modifying them to try to use them, so.....I made my own. THEN the pulleys, I had them matching, I used them from a left over kit. The details that are coming........OMG, I'm about to unleash serious power on this build, so, STOP talkin John and post some updated pics would ya!!!!????? I can hear ya all now! WHAT? You thought I'd just "modify" a existing frame to hold these beasts? Not in a million years! Ole John has to make EVERYTHING seemingly difficult so, I scratchbuilt the damned frame too! B-| Wouldn't be me, if I didn't! THEN.......Those who know me, know me well... seeing these as they are, you know I CAN'T STAND leaving things alone it HAS to be detailed......
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 (edited) Here comes the detail people..... Not sure if ya can see it well, BUT in the front of the engine there is the distributor to each of the 2 engines, they're MSD clones I made, they were turned on my lathe from a solid plastic sink plunger handle that I found for 2 bucks a 3 foot handle at a local bargain "close-out" store........ Yeah, I bought a few, they turn real well in the lathe for some such things and they also glue well with ALL plastic glues I have, Ambroid, Tenax 7R, Plastruct, Testors, Super Glue, Crazy Glue, you name it, it all works on this plastic! AND it turns so well, I look for it all the time for this very reason! The only waste? The plunger head! Makes NICE parts tho! Shows a good picture of the Distributors! ----^ The silver "Valve Cover Breathers" are turned aluminum rod, that I just held onto 1 inch long slugs for some such project needing something pretty small, one section is all it took to make all 4 of them! NICE detail work going in and coming out to be seen from my camera! Took some advice from a fellow forum member here and hes right! The wire looms I'm using, they look GREAT, even tho I can use the Photo-Etched ones, the heat shrink tubing, looks and works really well! (He KNOWS, who he is!) Thanks guy! ENJOY, more to come as I build! Edited December 21, 2016 by 426-Hemi Fixed Emoticon
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 So, a few pics to add for an update..... I made a template for the body of the.......sleigh, and so here you see the card stock used and the hand drawn contours of whats to come...... Here that template is, traced onto the plastic sheet. The WHOLE body of this model, WILL BE scratchbuilt to suit the needs of the jolly ole fat man to ride in..... Like always with me, more pictures to come as progress is made for this MOTM entry!
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 (edited) So those messages are over. see the following SLEIGH, body as it is standing in place for a mock-up.... Looks pretty dang good from here for ole Santa! The seat, is from a '41 Plymouth, that I just got on trade, HOWEVER, because of the tendency of my own self, I built the sleigh around THAT seat, I wasn't happy with the work needed to the seat for this project, tosses it back in the box with the complete model, pulled out my NEW model of the same car, and assembled just THAT seat from the new '41 Plymouth coupe to use and will use bucket seats in the new kit when I build it but use the bench seat for this build! A lot of work but, with this build, I got some STEEP competition to get around. To win anyway. see what I have on a limited supply of parts and time! ENJOY! P.S. there IS a "SECRET" to this build NOT yet seen! Edited December 21, 2016 by 426-Hemi
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 This is the inspiration for the whole build..... I thought that it be a good place to put this to have not given away what I was attempting to do!
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 OK 'nuff said! Here comes that update!!!!!!!!!!! Sleigh........ is now getting paint! MOPAR ENGINE RED!!!!!! (Gotta keep it ALL Mopar...RIGHT!?) Seen this side is the "green" starter wires....And yes, they do get "buried" into the frame!!!! Showing details.....The "White" frame is painted, it has BOTH engine mounted to it as well as the odd looking transmission.....The coil wires in place, seen here, running to the alternator, thats also operated by that odd transmission! Over all of this side.....The frame is complete, NOW getting details from the front.. to the BACK..... THE SECRET IS COMING!
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 So.. remember back when I first started this MOTM, and said a few postings ago that there was a secret? WELL to PROVE its not something recent.. here is that proof............ NOTICE, it has a TRACK, not a TANK track, NOT a bulldozer track. but a SNOWMOBILE TRACK!!!!! Its been planned all along! BUT I added my own little twist to this detail..... I SPLIT IT DOWN THE CENTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Double the traction for the deeper snow right? Can't forget those "Monster Truck" details, right? WRONG! The jack shaft from a USA-1 that I just happened to have lying around the shop, WHAT BETTER place then to put it from that (Here we go again) ODD transmission to the front drive differential of the Snowmobile track! AND thats the end folks! This is all that will be seen when that Jolly ole Fat man dressed in red throws a bit of fuel to the ole gas powered rein..............................................HEMI's!!!!!!!!!! More to come and YET another "Secret" to be revealed when the time is right! ENJOY!
426-Hemi Posted December 21, 2016 Author Posted December 21, 2016 Another update for last nights work............. RUNNERS! YEP, those white things that are this way that way are just FRAMES for the "runners" to mount too! Cut and bent to shape by me.....NICE "Gold Trim" to go with it! Showing the curly cues up in the front! A side shot sowing they run the full length of the frames.....with a slight toe up in the back! Looking "down on" the whole works! With the track in place and the red center of the rollers guide wheels repainted to Mopar Sassy Grass Green for the Christmas colors in order..... Another "rear" of the unit....Getting ready to mount the track in place! Thats it for now, more maybe tomorrow! ENJOY!

Darren B Posted December 27, 2016 Posted December 27, 2016 This thing is totally insane, I love builds like this!!! The work is totally clean and very inventive. Love this stuff, can not wait to see more.
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 Very cool. Great project. Love fun projects like this. Thanks Bob, yeah this one was one mf my more FUN projects, as it could have gone anywhere as I literally had NO instructions, OR design plans, I built it as I went, by the seat of my pants.... -Turned out GREAT I think!
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 This thing is totally insane, I love builds like this!!! The work is totally clean and very inventive. Love this stuff, can not wait to see more. Thanks Darren, I thought you'd like it!!!! Everything as I mentioned was built as I went, I was literally "Winging it" when I started all from an old hand-drawn picture..... PLUS I added in a little of my twisted sense of humor as you'll all get to see when I'm able to post more to the build!

426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 (edited) -Forgot to say..... you know I mentioned a few posts up................ this dang thing is 8 inches long right on the mark! *Shakes head* I can't remember EVER making a car model that long. suppose with dual Hemi's replacing the 'Deer. I had to......... You know, all scratchbuilt, HELL I even MADE the engines! VERY few of my own "parts" collection from other companies in this one!!! LOTS of plastic shapes and scrap plastic to make this one happen as well as a couple ounces of resin plastic! Scrachbuildin' fool I am.......... I'll never learn and do something the easy pre-designed way! LOL Edited December 27, 2016 by 426-Hemi Spelling
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 OK 'nuff, of this..... You know why? I got 2 of whats said to be "World Products" castings for Mopar "610 Hemi's" and the part that gets me? I have NEVER looked up what the actual "internal specs" were to pass along to the Elves that will be working on this to keep it going for many years to come for ole Santa! So with that......Here is some specs for those tiny little Elves to her moving when Santa needs something more for bad weather and the Reindeer are tired, (After-all they are getting old!!!!!!)Bore = 5.09Stroke = 3.75Over Bore =0.0Over Stroke =0.0Cylinders = 8Cubic Inches = 610.445224713523Litres = 10.0035269441608THEN to remember there ARE 2 of these! SO...."1220" C.I.D."20 Liter" Sounds like a whole lot of "Go like hell" to me!
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 So, another "update" to what ole Hemi has been up to for this build.....:D Sometimes, with me, you just NEVER know where any one item is going during the build....SO, with that said, I'm about to show some sleigh "trim".... I thought the gold look trim that is a "piping" look to it, (those of you that have done REAL car restoration know what I mean here) But piping, as such as seat "piping" type trim. I think for the sleigh it turned out the GREATEST look for the model... as planned too! I could NOT have thought of a better way to do it! This shot, shows some "extra" trim I added....That gold trim that looks like "pipe" it sort of is, its solid brass! I turned it and then polished it, IT will be gloss coated BEFORE its all said and done with for the fact that unprotected it will turn green! So, I've got a few tricks for it up my sleeves to keep it nice and shiny! Notice the 2 "holes" going through the front of the front of the sleigh.....PAY attention to these! They're a "secret" part of the build! As you'll see as I progress! A bit of a close up for this side (I have to admit) I haven't taken many pictures of this side, and its not cause I have more to do to it or anything, BUT the side that I'm working on or from is normally the side I get my pictures from! Showing a bit of the "rear" of how it is now, for the sleigh, BUT its possibly going to change just a little bit! BUT that too, is in question, Not sure the planned change, is gonna happen! Interior shot. Showing a bit more then my past "interior" pics....A bit yet to do in here. as you'll see in upcoming updates on this build! GOING very well, I'm loving how all is turning out to date, nothing is or has been "questioned" in my own head....I'm pleased with it! As I question EVERYTHING like that I build, thats my "Enemy" sometimes when I'm building! Till next time, ENJOY
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 So, a bit of a TYPED update, I go an post pics this morning.. the sleigh all looks GREAT, I'm pleased with everything EVEN a "secret" part, that I had together, looked AWESOME, paint when on it just great, began to add some "trim" shall we say. And the freaking (OTHER choice word here) glue slung down the side of that "secret" part, SO, WHAM...........Ever see a part that has 6 pieces, VERY small hit the table your working on, STILL all in one piece and then thats not "good enough".... so you SLAM your buckled over fist into it, and smear the glue, paint color you name it right into the table edge, and then leaving you with a somewhat smile like you dirty SOB. THEN 5 minutes (literally) latter, I sat my hand in such a way on the table to move something and this red line follows my hand across the wood grain? YEP took 5 minutes for the small scratch to actually "bleed" on my pinky finger, hell, I wouldn't have even known I broke the skin had I not seen the red paint like trail following my hand as I was trying to get the dimensions of the NEXT built replacement part that I literally just smashed! My wife, at her work area At the time of "WHAM" in the shop instantly jumps up and grabs the whole sleigh...... and her exact verbal saying to me "OHHHH NO YOU DON'T" and walks away with the sleigh itself at the time I slammed that damned small part, she thought for a split second that I had ruined the whole works! (THANK GOD I work in sub assemblies!) As that one glue slum issue would have literally taken me out of the contest! Would have ruined the whole model! Just to say how bad it was! *sigh* at least the sleigh is in MINT shape, but damned BLAH_BLAH_BLAH_BLAH to happen I knew it get me sooner or later....Thought you all might get a bit of a laugh outta me and stoopid glue anyway! I'll laugh at it for now DANG junk LOLOne of those Just walk away, and laugh.... times you know?EVERYTHING has gone well till this! NOT a single "hitch" with anything done to it, but that one small part!!!
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 Yet another verbal update....That "WHAM" part, has been rebuilt, and is painted, and NOW has its freakin trim on it (what caused the "WHAM" yesterday!) But thats done. Its almost ready to be added to the model.......I'm NOT going to give this one away! It will be revealed, WHEN the final pictures are posted.....I have pictures to post, just don't have them done, they will be edited, and uploaded later today....As for the remaining details, Body of the sleigh has been clear coated, and its setting, it has also gotten MORE details, within, as you'll see.....These will be revealed later today, I'm not going to say what any one of them are till I have the pictures to back up the update....A LOT of detail work has been done! With most of those updates, today, you'll see them...... ONLY!!!! a FEW "last second" details WILL be added not revealed till thee end. Which is coming!I can honestly say in 26 years, this is the first of them for me.......... it was thee last started, and thee first finished! AMAZING!
426-Hemi Posted December 27, 2016 Author Posted December 27, 2016 So anyway, "its later today".... and I'm trying to kill a little time this morning as on Thursday morning. I let the wife sleep in and i take the daughter to school, SO, with that said....I went and grabbed the camera card from the shop and got the pics edited for posting and uploaded to add the links for all to see! SO, with that said, here we go! Seen here is the fuel line going from the front mounted tank (like the inspiration picture shows....) I ran the fuel line! This was a FUN detail.....Good GAWD....As I musta wasted 3 hours digging through different wire types till I foundsomething, suitable? I guess would be the right word for this......... SO, finding that made it possible! BUT, what about a fuel filter? Yep, had to add one. just isn't right without it, so then back to digging, just didn't take nearly as long to locate a double, thats forsure! I got it somewhat painted from my parts organizers from a used part, this one was in WAY bettershape then the other one I had, and sadly the other one was also a "single" filter not a double! Off to run the piping from the center of the filter bank to the rear of the front engines injectors. and then out the back ofthe secondfilter to the rear of the rear engine injectors.... looks pretty good! Showing the nicely done front mounted fuel tank..... Then the MAJOR stuff! I went and gone crazy a bit with some interior details..... WELL NOW........ you see a Candy Cane gear shift, and boot, all custom made and painted by me, as well as the lower "dash" area has some "trim" on it now.... I also added a windshield, with gold trim, as well as a rear view mirror for Santa use to watch for following UFO's while the ole magic makes him fly as long as we all "BELIEVE" he'll remain flying but. if that drops, then he'll have to use the shifter and track to get him through.....:D NOW I'm gonna say, this is THEE LAST "photo" update you will see of this build, the END is near! A few surprises will come when the end is shown! ENJOY!
