Guest zebm1 Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 I waz watching Formula One Practice yesterday and they said.....No Formula One in USofA this year. What's up with that?
Nick F40 Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Apparently, Bernie Ecclestone and Tony George don't have a deal with the contract anymore or can't support it. They are planning to return in 09 maybe or maybe not at Indy. There have been talks of having the GP at Leguna Seca.
CAL Posted May 24, 2008 Posted May 24, 2008 Bernie Ecclestone wants a US GP, but probably not at Indy. Bernie wanted what amounted to several million in improvments to the track at Indy and Tony George told him to pound sand. There has also been interest in Vegas.

Ecclestone wanted, as you state, all manner of improvements, for what was for IMS apparently a very low profit event--F1 held all the TV rights, controlled just about everything) and apparently wouldn't budge, so Tony George, acting on behalf of his mother and siblings, who own the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Corporation (it's a closed, family-held corporation) refused to sign on for another contract. Not surprising, as one does not keep a multi-billion dollar family fortune growing by making stupid deals. In addition, it does appear that F1 just is NOT a major draw in Indianapolis, nor across the US, as a significant portion of each year's attendance did come to Indy, tourist visas in hand. Frank Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Yeah Bernie Ecclestone is a greedy little p***k. He is trying to force the Aussie F1 to change to a night race for the sake of TV rights. He has been told to get stuffed. he couldn't care less about the F1 to him it's the money he gets for the TV rights.

He is trying for a night race so it would be televised live at a reasonable hour in Europe. Furthermore, at 76, he said it's not about the money anymore. How much does one need? He already surpased the Queen in wealth. 1996 he was making 1 million dollars a week. Not that I agree with his tactics and politics.
Mal.au Posted May 25, 2008 Posted May 25, 2008 Hi Guys F1 Races aren't worth the money greedy Bernie asks for it I am sure if the Family that owned Indy threw a 1/4 of the money at V8 super car they would be more than happy to oblige, how good would that be Mal
